1998 42RE Manual select doesnt stay in gear
 

First post havent found anything relating to my current issue. I have a 1998 grand cherokee 4.0 with a 42re. Its a DOG with stock gears (3.73) and 35’s which may be contributing to my issue.

When manually selecting 1 it will shift into second almost immediately unless im full throttle from a stop then it will shift at about 3000rpm. The gear selector works for downshifting from D to 2 and it will grab 2nd gear no problem. But wont downshift into 1st unless im basically stopped. The 1 position on the shifter is basically useless.

So far have replaced just the governor and pressure sensors, replaced fluid, and adjusted bands properly. (Not my first a500). And tried every position in the TV cable.

Got to talking to ETRANSCONTROL about their full manual shift kit and they don’t believe their kit will override this issue and that with their kit it won’t be able to shift it into 2nd

any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated im out of ideas at this point.

Also since i mentioned ETRANSCONTROL, seems like the 2 controllers they have for the a500 would be great for some more of these grands and the sh**ty 42re and havent seen much info on them either but my experience with their customer service has been great so far and even if i do get the shifts corrected i still may but their controller to have a full manual 42re.
