Default WTH drive shaft ??

Ok. Not about XJ but bear with me.
88 YJ 4.2 Puegot BA 10/5 trans.

Had an issue last fall where I lost the clutches ability to disengage. I figured throw out bearing.

Long story short while wife and I were separated for 8 months she let, he whose name I won't mention, work on my Jeep in my garage.

ANYHOOOOO.... grrr

It was a mess!!!

So, yesterday I set about putting her back together. Got to the rear drive shaft and it's too long?? Like 1 3/4"-2" too long. Now, I can't say with certainty it is the driveshaft that was in it when he pulled the trans. He had talked her into buying a different trans she didn't need which would need a longer drive shaft. But I don't know for sure that's the issue.

The ds out of my 92 fits good in the 88... ??
It is lifted with a T-case drop. I even removed that and bolted the cross Memeber stock to the frame and still too long???

So is there ANYTHING I could have done on reinstall ? Freakin trans / bell housing is all snugged tight...
