I just watched a bird fly into the window outside my office. I walked outside to ask if he was ok. Of course, he was mad and said f you and took off, right into a pole. Birds....

My dad parked his Cessna in the grass at a small rural airport and started walking towards the terminal building, almost stumbling over a sleeping Canada goose! The goose burst into the air, looking back over it's shoulder to see what had frighten it, only to crash into the side of the hanger! Recovering from that, it glided down to land on the sidewalk that was covered in ice, slid a ways, then fell on it's nose! My dad couldn't stop laughing long enough to wipe the tears away.

Geese are funny, They are only graceful when on water or in full flight. The getting back and forth between the two is usually a crash waiting to happen. lol

Something I remember from living in the desert in Ca. In Ca one of the questions on a driver's test is "what are the only two things legal to drop on the roadway?" The answer is clear water and feathers from live birds.

So once in awhile a gaggle of Geese would get confused and think that a stretch of roadway in the middle of the desert was a river and try to land at 45 MPH. It would always turn into a huge crash of rolling road rash and cloud of feathers.

Thinking of that driver's license test question used to always make me bust up even harder every time I saw this happen. lol

Here in NY, we've got so many geese raised by the state that once released into the wild, don't have enough sense to migrate! Some will hang around all winter being fed by local people at community parks and farms. Once they integrate with normal flocks, they get the message! At our local Swan Pond in the village, there are often wing-shot geese that will stay for a while until they heal. People feed them day-old bread which isn't good for them. My son and I once took a bag of bird seed down there and they just about knocked us down trying to get to the bag! We just dropped it and they ripped it apart. It's amazing how they can find it in the grass and clean it up quickly.

There's a great movie where a man lead a flock of raised geese south with an ultra-light airplane. I think he did it because his daughter asked him to.

Yep, that's a great movie I think it is called "fly away home" and it's based on a true story, The Grandkids make us watch it over and over and over. lol

People food "welfare" is the absolute worst thing for wild animals...

You're not kidding at all about people feeding wild animals! The people in my town have started feeding deer about 5 years ago (which is illegal), so now the deer have moved into the villages for the winter and just lately stay all year. For the past 2 years the town council has hired contract hunters to reduce the population by shooting them with crossbows! It seems any time people mess with the natural balance they screw things up! I see deer every single night in the residential neighborhoods when I deliver my newspapers. The feeding start with just a few apples!

LOL. I read something like that and I can hear my mom's voice in my head saying "Inanimate objects can't be stupid".
Every year just before Thanksgiving I take care of as much as I can. Plenty of food in the house, bills paid till after Jan 1st, etc.
The goal is to limit time out there during the holidays being in contact will all the crazy people.
It is like milk and bread mentality before a storm only it lasts almost 2 months.
I have no desire to deal with it.
But I can only accomplish this because I don't have a life.
And I am OK with that.
