I have a 96' inline 6 cyl 4.0L. I just replaced the alternator. The car is working better than it was even though the original problems werent fixed. Now, whenever Im in drive with the AC or heater on, the belt has a repetitious sqeak. (Like 3 sqeaks a second).

Someone told me the belt needs to settle in the new alternator pulley threads. Even though it doesnt sqeak when driving without the AC or heat on.

Welcome to the site RedRubi1996 !

I would think that the belt is still on the loose side and is slipping when ac is on and under full load. With belt off did you check all pulleys/ idlers and make sure they are all free with no tight spots?

I agree, the belt is not tight enough

The belt needs to be real tight, tighter than you might think, like 180-200 pounds new, 140-150 pounds used. There are inexpensive belt tension gauges available for dialing it in:
