Default Heater core going bad for the third time..

So the other day I was driving normally like I usually do, about a 30 mile trip. I noticed that there was a liquid that looked like it had seeped from behind the dash. Then I knew it.. My heater core was going bad. AGAIN. I've had to replace this thing 2 times already. Last time I had it replaced was 3 months ago, and it looked fine up until I noticed that liquid just a few days ago. It seems to happen every 3 months for some reason, I don't know what could be causing the heater core to stop working. But I know its becoming a waste of time and money.

So the last h/c you removed was definitely bad? Before you pull this one loosen both h/c hoses. Pull them back a bit from the firewall and retighten them. Seen them leak down into the cab many times because of this.

I think you'll fine the leaks are where the pipes attach to the core. If they are flexed even the slightest bit during installation, the welds crack. The better ones have adjustable connections at the pipe entry. After buying a cheap aluminum one from Rockauto and having my buddy install it, it leaked even before it left the shop! After pulling the dash apart AGAIN, that's where the leak was. He told me to let HIM get the next one because if that one leaked, he could get the labor back. He found a core made of copper and brass for just a little more from Liland Radiator here in Syracuse. (he calls them "the towel-heads") It's been over a year and no sign of leaks or strange smells.

Alright thanks, I'll definitely buy the copper and brass one so it saves my time!
