Default Electric Conversion.... Kinda

So i been seeing these new wheel motors floating around where they have the electric motor and all built into the wheel and i was wondering how cool it would be to implement in 2wd jeeps and such to make them 4wd without swapping in 4wd parts. Expensive id assume but a cool concept nonetheless

Still a concept im sure theres issues of sand, water and mud getting inside and destroying it but im sure theyre gonna figure a way to seal it up.

Much easier and cheaper to just convert to 4wd. Seriously, I bought a '96 for $250, pulled the parts I wanted and/or needed off of it, MADE $1200 in the part-out, and converted mine over to 4wd.

Yeah the whole electric wheel motor thing is cool where there's not any other option, but not practical at all for something as easy to convert as a 2wd XJ.

I wanted to convert my other MJ to electric.

The response from the MJ community... well, let's just say it was less than enthusiastic.

Those wheel motors are interesting, but that design does not look like it has any hope in holding up to most on road conditions... At least that I see in my road usage... Let alone off road usage.

Converting to electric is one thing. There was a fella on here a few years back that succeeded in converting his Jeep to full electric. Pretty cool, actually. Last I heard though, the batteries already needed to be replaced after just a few years of use. Kind of a bummer.

This isn't converting to electric though, this is just converting the front wheels to electric instead of doing a 4wd conversion.
