Anybody remember those old CDW comercials where users would say/do the stupidest things. Funny because they were at least partially true. Or anybody old enough to remember the original BOFH stories?

sthon, if you're looking for part-time work from home, I'm about to PM you.

Also, Salad! Dang brother, our jobs sound almost the same. You've got a little more time under your belt than I do though, haha. I dabble with Linux a little here and there, but not a whole lot. I have a BackTrack distribution (that I love), that I use for fun sometimes and for penetration testing (no dirty jokes, lol).

I'm very familiar with Netapp and VMware, it probably wouldn't take too much for me to get VCP at this point. I've completely designed and implemented my company's Netapp SAN and VMware (and the supporting Cisco backend) infrastructure from the ground up. Pretty proud about it

Now that's you've just finished, your boss will learn about the wonders of NFS datastores over 10Gb eithernet and cost savings and expect this to be done by the end of the month so he can look good to his boss. You know he read that somewhere on the internets thingy. Oh and just flip on those jumbo frames too while you're at it.

That commercial was awesome! That sums up my entire career hahahahaha

Geez you guys going on about VMware and Netapp... I must've been reading fast as I thought you were dealing with *Netware*. **** me. BTW I have a full install set of Netware 3.12 on 3.5" if anybody would like a copy.

How do you Netapp guys like it? I met a CSE and account manager at the VMware User Conference in Ottawa when we were shopping for SANs. The integration looks AWESOME but we ended up going with Compellent for the automated tiered storage. I think I'm happy with it lol. It's very hands-off which is alright because I have a lot of **** to do, but it's seriously a pain in the *** to have to deal with their support EVERY time you need anything done or a log/alert explained. Even **** like "What volumes are impacted by this failed disk?" -> gotta call support

I'm not sure what to think about BOFH these days. I think Simon must be about as strung out as Stephen King lol.

I hope you guys have seen this before:

In an academic setting a LOT of people get red dots next to their names.

My last job we had 2 IBM blade chassis with dual 10gb switches. They wouldn't cough up the money for the NFS license though lol.

Oh yeah speaking of VMworld and the sort of mini Conferences. The first one I went to I was so confused. Their naming scheme makes absolutely no sense, the marketing doesn't (well, didn't anyway) say what any of the ****ing products actually DO (increases dynamic synergies and provides continuity while improving ROI and governance compliance), and every second sentence someone would say "cloud" like it actually means something

My group is moving away from the corp headquarters which completely eliminates the possibility of users showing up unannounced over trivial matters and scaring the **** out of me because I have my head phones on.

User: blah blah blah putty something blah blah blah.
Me: I'm not here to train you how to use putty.
User: Oh no, it's not about how to use putty. The system is broken. I copied everything from person X.
Me: OK let's see.
Me again: You have the wrong hostname.
User: Oh...

And yes, I **** you not this actually happened. You guys know I speak the truth.

Everything with VMware starts with "v". It might be worse than "i" everything.

My boss continually mixes VCS (Veritas) and VSC (Virtual Storage Console). I don't even try to train him anymore.
