Lightbulb The IT BS Thread!

Since it's been established that we have quite a few members here who work in the profession of IT, the idea was brought up (thanks sthon) to start a thread! So, whats up, fellow geeks? Describe your job in IT, what you love or hate about it, silly user tricks, etc.!

I'll start. I'm a Network Administrator for a local credit union. My boss was recently fired and our IT department now consists of two people, myself included, which means not only am I a Network Admin, but also an Email Admin (Exchange), Helpdesk Support (everyone's favorite), Microsoft Server admin, VMware admin, Storage Admin...the list goes on. Overall, I love my job, and have lots to keep me busy on an average day, but try to stick to my Cisco gear. Just finished up my CCNA class, and fighting to get my test scheduled before the old one expires at the end of this month.

Us nerdy IT folks can have a good mechanical hand, too! I love working on my Jeep (except when it comes to Torx bolts), and since I do computers for a living now, it's not a hobby anymore, and not near as fulfilling as the Jeep bug.

Nice! I got my start doing web hosting as a teen. Since then I've worked for a few start up companies (online backup, social media etc). I mostly do Linux, VMware, storage, etc. Currently I'm working for a start up called TallCat.

I've been working in electronics since 1976. I started doing component level troubleshooting on telephone equipment. Later on microprocessor controlled word processors and typesetters. Then in the mid 80's I started working on mini and micro computers. Then just PC's with a short foray into the Mac side. One day the boss said we need somebody to be A+ certified for warranty claims and sent me to take the test. There weren't any study guides back then and PC, Mac & other hardware were all in the same test. I passed and later got my Microsoft MCP. I've been doing desktop support for over 25 yrs with some light net admin work thrown in.

I have an associates in computer support and another in network technologies.

I work for a local hospital of around 800 end users.
I'm just an it tech...and I do just about everything.
from cleaning rollers on printers...to running cat6 through the ceilings and terminating it. Originally I was certain I just wanted to stick to computer support..but I'm really working more toward networking now.

I've been working here for a year now.
before this I was a lead logistics coordinator for amazon.com

I do a bit of other stuff too like coax installs and a bit of phone work.

I'm where the money is. Don't know what a cert or electricians degree would do for you, electronics technology could get you into some more stuff IMO.

My school started a core program with engineering so I could do all that junk then transfer to tech or something... I'm not that smart and don't have enough money to go anywhere else. Plus the teacher is this little Indian dude that I can't understand. Not to mention he smells like curry.

I forgot to throw in printer admin...I do that too! I hate when I get a ticket about a printer, though! lol. I've run wire through ceilings and such too. I have an associates in specialized business and did an internship at a huge hospital here in PA. That was a very interesting 3 months. Big money in networking if you want to go all the way. It's some crazy stuff.

Don't really have anything to contribute but I thought I'd mention that I'm going to school and majoring in Comp Sci.

Edit: I know this has nothing to do with IT.
