wiring 01 xj doors onto 95 xj...
So Ive read a few times that newer XJ doors can work with older models, I have all the hardware to attach them, But the wiring is a mystery to me now, my 95 is all manual, and now I have doors with Power windows, locks and mirrors.
Any write ups on how to hook up wiring to get them to work? Id be happy with at least the driver window for now. searching didnt seem to bring up anything useful yet. |
Find a donor xj and grab the harness then just splice plugs over. Using both years wiring diagram .

That kind of crimping tool is responsible for a lot of the (incorrect) bad reputation that crimp connections have. Those things are junk.
That detail aside, he doesn't mention the most important thing, the alignment of the splice and the crimper. There is a seam in a butt splice (and other crimp connectors) and the seam must be at right angles to the crimper. If it's not, you'll split the seam and get a poor connection. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...0428d911f5.jpg And no, if you are using the correct crimper, you cannot crimp too hard. Harder is better. If you are cutting your wire, you are doing it wrong. Here are some examples of decent crimpers: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...63ae97d0b5.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...06e1f25215.jpg |
So I have the plugs still coming out of the door, I know im not going to find those exact plugs under my dash just waiting to be connected...So if all I'm worried about right now is the windows to work, could I just find a power wire that's ACC , and run off that, so just finding the power and ground off the door wires would be all I would need to power the driver side window right?
Or would the windows, locks and mirror all run off the same power source ? Sorry I've only ever wired in a few stereos and a CB or two |

Now it's time to spend some cash on some manuals/wiring diagrams: http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com/1...ce_manual.html http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com/2...ce_manual.html |
