Default Wire plugs

Hello everyone, my question is about wiring after market plugs to wires in the xj. Basically will any plug work if replacing both male and female. Example: my o2 sensor fell against the exhaust manifold and melted, if I cut off both plugs and re-pin the after market male and female plugs. Will this work? I feel like as long as all the wires are in the correct location it should t matter. Is there any plugs this won’t work with. Thanks in advance for the help.

It should, just make sure there's a good solid connection that's insulated from moisture getting in there

I have an 88 and have "upgraded" many connections using Delphi weather packs (GM connectors, which my 88 had many of from the factory). The price will vary with the quality, but good weather packs are a solid unit. If it is interior dry connections there are may choices that are quality.

Thanks everyone for the help. I’m just going to start swapping one plug at a time. Doing a semi “restoration”.
