Switch on starter?

So I was working on my jeep today and I found this weird switch laying in the engine bay. There is a wire that goes from the starter to the switch. The other wire coming from it is pretty long, but it is cut off. I dont understand what it would be for. I'll attach some images so you guys to see. It starts just fine so I dont know what it is for
Here are what the pics are of:
pic 1: the switch itself
pic 2: starter from the bottom
pic 3: starter from the top

Maybe a homemade and more permanent version of a remote starter? Like if you were doing a compression test by yourself you could crank it from there instead of getting in and out of the Jeep.
