I tried the same thing. The modern inverters have a square wave instead of sine wave current. They have trouble starting electric motors.

not a chance.

that compressor draws 2.6 amps. volts x amps = watts, so 120v X 2.6 = 312watts. but a motor driven device on a square or modified sine wave inverter requires 2-3 times the rated wattage to start the motor, so you will need at least a 1000w inverter just to start and run that compressor.

i wouldn't trust a modified sine wave inverter to run any electronic device, you will likely damage the device. nothing better than a true sine wave inverter, but they are pretty expensive, and usually requires two identical batteries linked together via an isolator. these inverters also need to be directly wired up to your battery.

wow, i'm surprised it even started it. i thought it would just humm as it's trying to start that power hungry motor.
your choice tho. but i don't think your wiring is up to the job, but there's only one way to find out. if you're going to continue using it, good luck. maybe have a fire extinguisher close by.

I have often wondered if you could do it with start capacitors on the motor. In theory that should do it

the 10 minutes i ran it the wires didnt even get warm. also it takes 3 min to fill the tank so in theory maybe 15 min to fill all 4 tires back to 33psi. dont think i will have a prob with fires. but ill get a small extinguisher most likely anyways.
