Not knowing what model or year of your Jeep XJ, WJ lots of different radios available for stock.

My 99 XJ came like your did with a aftermarket radio from OP with all hard to use controls. I bought a factory AM/FM/CD/Cass for it as that was what it shipped with from factory.

It is easy to use on and off road and has vg sound, I have been well pleased with the swap.

I bought mine here from a member for $70 shipped in vg condition. What do you have an XJ or WJ and the yr.?

I just purchased a factory AM/FM/CD/with Nav. for my 2004 WJ for $325 shipped on eBay from a seller who has been in business for a long time who rebuilds factory radios. It came with a yr. warranty and with free return shipping for 90 days if any problems. This unit sold new for about $1800 from Jeep and was the only option my WJ did not have on it except for the tire air pressure which was a problem on most.

You'll find cheap radios pop up on eBay... my old '94 ZJ Grand Cherokee didn't have a radio in it when I bought it so I put a Sony radio for the time being when I owned it... when I sold it I needed a radio to put in since I wanted to take the Sony with me. I found a cheap factory Jeep A/M-F/M-cassette radio (what the Jeep would've come with originally, according to its build sheet) for about $10 on eBay. I also put in 4 aftermarket Pioneer speakers in the doors since the original factory Jeep speakers were blown out, and I left them in the Jeep when I sold it.

My stock AM/FM/CD/Cassette works fine on AM in my 99 XJ, as does my 04 WJ's radio.

Some of the factory Chrysler A/M-F/M-Cassette-CD units had built in AM Stereo reception, but I don't believe there are a lot of AM station that even bother to broadcast in AM Stereo anymore, and some of the ones that did have since moved over to AM HD Radio.

The stock radios always got good AM reception from what I've experienced, however. You should be fine with a stock A/M-F/M-Cassette unit since you really only listen to AM radio. They're very easy to find.

I don't suggest going to a junkyard because you never know the condition of the electrical parts until you actually try and put them in your vehicle... plus they've been sitting out in the weather for awhile (since people leave the doors and windows open, or else take the doors off). Get something that's been tested, or at least guaranteed to work when you get it.
