radio install help needed

4 Attachment(s)
I'm putting the radio out of a 02 wj into my 99 wrangler (was having issues with the wrangler forum's website, so I thought I'd post here). I am a newbie to electronics so I really don't know what I'm doing. I'm not sure which harness adapter I need to make this thing work. I got pictures of the wiring that is currently on the jeep as well as the back of the radio I'm trying to install. Also not sure which antenna adapter I need. Any help is appreciated.

What the hell is this "wrangler" you speak of?

I have an 04 WJ Overland with the optional am/fm/cd with 10 disc changer and also a 99 XJ your connector (on the Wrangler) looks more like the one on my 99 XJ. The WJ usually has steering wheel controls as well as an out board amp also, so the extra connector for some of those.

You'll need the wiring harness converter that converts the old style black-and-gray harnesses to work with the new gray single harness. It's NOT a direct plug and play, since the harnesses are different. You'll also need an antenna adapter, since the new antenna connector is different than the old-style plug-'n'-play "Motorola-Style" antennas on the older Jeeps. The harness and antenna adapter was originally intended for people wishing to put the OEM Jeep navigation radio (called the "RB1") that was offered as a factory option on the '02-'04 WJ's into an older ('99-'01) WJ that had the older-style (same as in your TJ Wrangler) wiring. Jeep switched to the "newer" wiring in 2002.

Not sure if they still sell the conversion harness and antenna adapter or not, but if they don't, your best bet is to install an aftermarket radio, or else find a stock radio that fits the wiring connectors.

Finally, the screw holes on the Wrangler won't line up with the screw holes on the WJ radio (the WJ has 4 holes, and the TJ Wrangler only has 2 holes in the diagonal corners of the radio opening).

Hope this helps!
