Default Wiring PA speaker to CB

Hi all,
I bought my son an amplified PA speaker (20 Watts) to connect to his new Cobra 29 CB. I am going to run power straight from the battery to the CB. Here is my question: Since the PA speaker is amplified, if I run hot wire to that, I think it would draw down on the battery even if it wasn't being used. So I am wondering what anyone thinks about how to run power to the PA Speaker. I could run power to somewhere that has power when the engine is on (but that means he has to turn the Jeep on). I'd like to see if I could have the PA run without the engine, but I am thinking that might require an inline switch to the PA speaker.

I'm looking to mount this in the small space by the brake booster under the hood. So any thoughts on how to make this easy would sure help.

Thanks,
Chris

You can simply tie into any "Key On" power source. For example your existing radio can play, engine off, in either Key On or Accessory.

What gauge wire is supplied/recommended for the amp? You can run it through a relay where the relay is energized with the Key On (just like the fuel pump). Make sure each circuit is properly fused.

Thank you Saudade. The PA Speaker will go under the hood (on the fender wall by the brake booster). Is there any point in the engine bay that I could tie into easily? I know I can run wire back through the firewall grommet to the interior and tie in to the fuse panel, but I'm looking for something easier.

Thanks

  1. This should be in AFTERMARKET electrical.
  2. What makes you think it will draw power? Why not do a temp hookup and test it?
  3. You should find an ignition on circuit in the PDC.
