I want to get a new radio
I have a jeep cherokee sport 2000 model and I would like to get a new radio in my car but I'm not sure how to determine the radio size that I need and which radio is the best value for price.
Thanks. |

You'll have to use a single-DIN (2") head unit, as double-DIN (4") head units won't fit... Chrysler used a DIN-and-a-half (1.5") head unit from the factory, so while it may look like a double-DIN head unit would fit into the dash opening, it won't. You *could* stick a double-DIN head unit in there, but it'll require some extensive cutting of the dash, and will block your HVAC vents and controls, most likely. The installation kit from Scosche or Metra (depending on where you buy, my '94 ZJ had a Scosche kit because I bought from Walmart, while my '02 WJ has a Metra kit because I bought from Crutchfield) will fill the void originally created by the OEM head unit. Plus you'll have many more choices with single-DIN aftermarket head units. Other than that, it's up to you what to install, it really doesn't matter WHICH single-DIN head unit you put in there. Good luck. :)

Yeah a single din head unit is your best option and the hugest market for aftermarket radios.

I recently installed a Pioneer MVH-X580BS and am very happy with it. About $100.

The easiest thing to do is get a single DIN head unit and use one of these with it:
https://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-6000.../dp/B00029X1O6 It closes the gap and gives you a stupid little useless pocket underneath to store dirt. |

Hey, I like that little pocket! It fits my phone perfectly!

Those aftermarket kits make the dash look nice and clean like you didn't change anything else but the radio, and typically match the stock fit and finish. I've seen some people just shove the radio into the factory opening so it's not secure... not ideal for a Jeep at all, lol.
