Default Cruise control

So I’m currently looking for a jeep Cherokee 4.0. My last one was a 95 Jeep Cherokee country that had cruise control. I’ve noticed a number of Jeep Cherokees do not have cruise control. I’ve been told that if the controls are on the steering well this is an easy fix. I’ve also been told it’s a more expensive fix but it can be done if they have to go into the steering column to fix this. Is this true? What are the costs if you have to go into the steering column as opposed to if the buttons are already on the dash?

All the plugs should be there, it's just a matter of adding all the correct parts and switches.
I am in the process of adding cruise control to my 93 XJ. I am using the cruise unit under the hood from a 97 XJ, I just have to splice the 97 plug onto my harness. The wire colors are the same so it's too easy.
I ordered a new turn signal lever with the cruise buttons, just have to install.

Here is a writeup that may help you. It's for a 97+ but will give you an idea of what is involved.

Default Bullit Proof Cruise Control

Pioneer factory ordered Jun. '87. 5sp. manual, 280,000 miles on untouched block and tranny/transfer case. 10,623 logged miles off road. Factory cruise stopped working at about 35k miles. Fiddled with it for another 200k. Rebuilt the memory board with mixed results. Original factory mechanical/electrical/vacuum set up is horrible! Replaced it with a Rostra all digital unit. No vacuum! Five stars for Rostra! Easily integrated into steering column. Indistinguishable from factory appearance. Completely modern performance. Experienced superb technical support to get me up and running. www.rostra.com
