Bought a cassette to 3.5mm adapter, but it won't work
 

Hello all,

I bought a cassette to 3.5mm adapter for my head unit (pictured below). It works, but the radio won't stop auto-reversing... I can hear the song play through it, and then it will flip, and then go back to the song. It does this a few times before spitting it out. I tried following a few online guides which show you how to remove some of the gears in the adapter, but that didn't seem to fix the problem, either. Has anyone found a solution to this or should I just go buy an aftermarket radio? Thank you.

Honestly, an aftermarket radio would probably be the easiest route. Get the adapters to simply plug into the factory harness instead of cutting it up, that way you can always go back to the original radio if desired. An aftermarket radio would probably have a vast array of features, depending on how much money you want to spend, but most at least have an 3.5mm aux input, or even bluetooth, or usb, etc. etc. On a budget, you could probably get the harness, dash kit, and a stereo for about $100.00. Also, if you haven't already, you could probably upgrade the speakers and make the most of the new headunit.

My wife is very attached to the original style radio in her 99 Cherokee. She had been using a cassette adapter and/or a radio/bluetooth adapter. I bought one of these (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-Jeep-...53.m2749.l2649) and installed it. Works great and retains the original radio. From there, you could use a bluetooth adapter that plugs into the aux port.

Im in thesame boat I want to keep the factory 95 headunit because I like the look. Walmart does sell a basic headunit that has bluetooth receiver for 20 or 30 bucks. It would get the job done but not fit the look of the interior.

I use an ION bluetooth cassette. Works awesome but you can't charge it while its in use so I think I'm going to pick up another one and charge one while the other is in use.

I tried another brand bluetooth cassette and it wouldn't worn right out of the box.

I've been using my factory head unit with cassette adapter for a few years now, and it works great. The only time I have a problem with the tape player reversing is when the adapter is cold, like when it's been in my glove compartment on a cold day. The auto-reversing feature works by detecting resistance when the tape ends, so anything that makes it hard to turn, like being stiff from cold, will cause it to reverse on you. I found my solution was to warm up the cassette against my leg for a bit before I stick it in when it's cold in the car. Works great.

Don't get me wrong, I am keeping the stock am/fm head unit in my 92. I don't drive it everyday, but I am planning on putting in an am/fm antenna modulator. It fits in line with the antenna wire and gives you a 3.5mm plug, amazon has them for like 25 bucks. Supposedly, the sound quality is not the greatest. But, its a tradeoff, originality or sound quality.

I too am trying to keep my Jeep Jeep. My '00 XJ came with the 6 CD changer with the storage box in the cargo area. I believe it to be a dealer installed option. Not factory. It runs off a FM modulator The wired remote for the CD Changer connects to the FM Modulator with what I think is called a DIN Connector. Plays over one of the lower stations on FM dial. It is powered and spliced in between the antenna and the radio. I actual think the sound quality is pretty good. But then again I am no audiophile. Some Mopar radios came with one of those DIN connectors on the back. It is supposed to be to operate the CD Changer. Instead of using the FM Modulator. The original radio, just a cassette player one, did not have the DIN connector. I was able to score a radio with the DIN connector off EBay that came with a Isimple device that lets me plug my 160 GB Ipod in and will play through the factory system. Was able to score that for $40.

I really like my Retrosound radio, they make a sweet din and a half radio that's perfect and it has Bluetooth, aux input and usb. I am happy with it, it has sub out and it works with the factory Infinity amp if you got that. Check it out.

I remember somebody posting about those. If I recall those are not cheap.
