I ran a Cobra 29LTD with some work done to it in my 92 XJ. Great radios! After that I ran a General Lee converted with some work done to it. Now in my '01 Im running a Uniden Pro520xl with a Astatic RD104E mic that Bells CB worked on for me. Actually talked with a guy in Louisiana the other night for quite awhile back and forth.

That Uniden is a great radio.

Man... just realized I never posted a pic of my new setup.
Nothin' special, but it sounds great compared to my old Cobra 19 LTD Classic.

CB/Amateur Setup
I have a 2001 GC (WJ) and in wiring power to radios, I didn't want to drill into firewall etc. to run power. So I did what I did on the 2001 Acura MDX and 2002 Ford Taurus I had. I bought an Amp wiring kit and used the 6 gauge wire with split loom tubing and taped over wire at pinch/rub points. Also have a 30 AMP fuse at battery in case of a short. I ran it along quarter panel under hood and in via door jamb. Then I ran it up under dash and zip tied it at various points along the way. I hooked positive wires from Cobra 29 NW LTD CB and Jetstream MH-270 Dual band radio to amp wire and secured with a wire nut and taped them all together. Ground wires were placed in a ring lug and connected to a bolt near gas pedal. Drilled holes in front console to fit brackets and secured radio brackets to it (and to Glove box lower panel for CB) with nuts and bolts. Routed antenna wire out rear seat door on driver's side and used magnetic antennas. I also have a small magnetic amber light bar whose wires run in same spot. Attached is a picture of the setup. The purple you see is where I disconnected the underdash lights hooked into dome lights and replaced them with LED strip lights.

Yeah,,,I know,,,old thread resurrection.
I have been a ham since the early/mid '80's, originally licensed as a code tech. Which at that time was 5wpm code, novice written exam and then the general written exam. I feel that I should be a general class but the FCC says that my general written is not the same as the current general written exam. Oh well,,,guess I will just stay a tech.
My first radio was a Drake TR22C 2mtr crystal radio, then I moved up to a Icom 2AT and finally an Alinco 2mtr mobile. Needless to say it has been many years since I was on the air, I did find the Alinco radio a few years back but it no longer worked. I think that I might like to get back into the hobby, I do keep my license current.
Back in the day other than chat driving back and forth to work I liked "fox hunting", direction finding. it was a good deal of fun. I did a few field days but then life got in the way,,,
I just got my first Jeep,,,97 XJ sport 2wd,,,a month ago so I will need to move the Cobra 29LTD fron the Trooper to the XJ.

That's a good little CB radio. I mounted mine between the sunvisors. The 96 and down had a spot where the IR sensor for the keyless remote was located - mounted right there. I never had the remotes for mine, so I removed the trim piece and secured a metal plate cut to the same shape, then basically "clamped" the radio bracket in place between the plate and the headliner. Worked excellent. Had my Cobra 19 LTD Classic in that spot, then put the 29 LTD Classic there when I got it.
I really like what you did there with that mount man. Slick idea for that sized radio! I did something similar to mount mine in the same location. My current is a Ranger RCI6900F and would be way too big and heavy for what you did there, I ended up fabbing an aluminum angle bar across side to side up under the visors and eliminated the rear view mirror.

Yes it is, The 29 is the same quality as the Uniden PC68XL, They both have top quality parts to maintain a good clean carrier wave.

I was looking at the Texas Ranger TR-696FD1 for a while because it had sideband, but someone gave me this as partial payment for work on their Chevy, so I couldn't pass it up. I was really glad I did, because as good of a radio as my 19 was, the 29 is MILES better.
haha good stuff, man.
