AM/FM over 50 ohm coax?
Hey,
I recently (as in today) installed my NMO through roof mount for my CB and am considering installing a second NMO mount to move the AM/FM antenna up to the roof as well (should improve the reception in mountain/canyons). This would also get it up so it's not getting smacked by brush/limbs (here in the desert, it's narrow areas with wide open overhead). The NMO mount I used has 50 ohm coax, whereas AM/FM radio seems to use 75 ohm coax. Can/how well will AM/FM work over 50 ohm coax? Thanks, Chris |
You could get some RG-59 coax ($0.55 a foot @ USA Coax) and put an NMO at one end and a Motorola Connector on the other.
I would be surprised if you noticed that much difference using a 50 ohm coax for receiving AM/FM. |
