Aftermarket CD Stereo Problems. WIRING HELP PLEASE?
Hello, I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, inline 6, 4.0 liter, quadradrive, with a stereo problem if anyone would like to help!!!
I got it with an aftermarket stereo already installed. Only problem was that only the radio worked. I figured the deck was broken. Although I was suspicious because the CD player played, but just no sound would occur. Also the AUX port in front of stereo would produce NO SOUND just the same. Hmm... So I got a replacement, connected all the wires, just as I've done quite a few times, all onto the wiring harness. And okay, now its the same symptoms, CD player plays, no sound happens. Radio works. There must be a problem from the last install. Ya think!???!!!! Has anyone seen this problem? Can anyone give me any pointers? Details: The two stock wire-harness are present, one black, and one grey. There is also a floating black wire, that was previously connected to the black wire on the old stereo (I have no idea where it went on the stock originally). There is also a blue wire that comes out of no where, which was connected to the blue/white stripe wire of the old stereo (no clue where that one came from originally). And then there is a floating yellow with green stripe wire, on some plastic white clip thing, that wasn't connected to anything. Other than this, everything is pretty straight forward. And again, the radio and all speakers work just fine, fade, balance, volume everything. So why won't any other SOURCES produce sound in the system? Please help! And yes, I'll be very grateful for the tips!!! Thanks, Zac |

yeah, well, I could but that's what I don't want to do. That's last case scenario. Cause hey, I wouldn't be doing it myself if I didn't want to learn. Learning might take longer, but its more fun when I'm knowledgeable. Thanks for the message, but its not very helpful... cause, hey, after all, I could have came up with that idea on my own lol.

Do you have the infinity factory system? If so like me I had to bypass the stock amp that's under your back seat.

yes I have the Infinity system.
The thing is, the radio works throughout the system. Would that be normal with the radio working? Cause I had that problem once with a Lexus, and only the tweeters worked until the amp was bypassed. Also, this Jeep seemed to have a big stereo in it before, with wires left un connected. So... Why would the radio work flawlessly and not the CD? |
The radio is turning off the power antenna lead when switching to other sources. The Infinity system amp is turned on by the power antenna lead. Thus it works in FM *when you need the antenna* and not in CD mode.
Connect the amp turn on wire *in the car harness* to the 12v key source, or if the headunit has it, connect it to the amp turn on wire and it should work. |

Any tips on identifying which wires these are that you speak of? Amp turn on wire? 12v key source (you mean the main power line?) Amp turn on wire? Does that have a typical color? Or do you know of any diagrams online that could help me identify these wires? thanks! Zac |
What radio do you have? I'll look up the specs on it.

It looks like the Blue/White wire *Amplifier Turn on* is the one you want to connect to the black connector pin 1.

That should turn on the factory amp in the Jeep if it has more than 4 speakers there is an amp that must turn on to listen to music. |
So, if I may clarify:
Are you saying; I should connect the blue with white stripe from my deck, to the floating black wire that I have coming up from the rear of my dash? And what about the black wire coming out of my unit? Connect it to the Blue wire coming from the dash? (because those two wires are coming from the dash, behind the wire harness, but aren't connected to the harness for some reason. |
No, I have no idea what those floating wires are. They're not stock, The only thing I'm focused on are the 2 factory radio connectors, Grey and Black.
The blue/white wire should be connected to the wire that is for Pin 1 of the black connector of the factory radio harness. From your description, the floating black wire is most likely a ground wire as the factory harness doesn't have one. The blue wire was most likely for an aftermarket amp. The green wire in the white clip is for the PCI bus and is not used by any Aftermarket radio and should be ignored. |

This will kill your battery. How do I know? I owned a stereo shop for 7 years. He is right in the fact that if it works with the radio and not the cd then the factory amp wire is hooked up to the antenna wire and not the "remote" wire. Switch to the other blue wire from the new unit. |
