Pioneer Deh-X3910BT HU doesn't have an illumination hookup and my dash lights are all dead. I have checked all fuses, cables, dimmer/light switch and lights. What do I do now?

Stereo lights up when its powered up no dimmer.

Yup, you'll just use the Pioneer's integrated dimmer control to dim the display. Chrysler products don't have dimmer wires.

As to why the dash lights are dead, I'm not sure if you cut any wires, but you didn't have to. What year and type of Jeep are you working on?

Make 100% sure that the illumination connections on the head-unit are taped off
I can't remember what the issue was, but mine weren't when I bought my XJ and it kept blowing the interior lighting fuse - after i taped the connection it has been fine for years

Yeah if a wire touches the chassis of either the aftermarket radio or the factory radio mounting area it WILL spark and cause a fuse to blow. I got away with just cutting the unused wires down so that they wouldn't make contact with anything.

When cutting wires i will not be using i like to cover them with the appropriate size heatshrink to cover the ends, leaving a bit extra. Once its heated i fold the extra over and tape it as tightly as possible with electrical tape. Added protection. OR, if i know how, ill remove the unused terminal from the connector altogether, store it and the wiring in a small baggie, and staple that baggie to the manual for whatever it is i was working on and add it to the filing cabinet, with a note or drawing of where that wire went in case i ever need to put it back for whatever reason. I lost count of how many times that came in handy.

You're making the assumption that he has a Chrysler product. If it's an OBDI or Renix XJ, it's more AMC than Chrysler. My '92 has a dimmer wire and my Sony HU dims as soon as the lights turn on.

Either way, if he locates the dash illumination circuit, he can tap into that and send it to the illumination pin on the wiring harness for the HU and it will dim the display on the HU as soon the parking light/dash light circuit has power going to it.
