Default 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ sound won't work

Hey everyone, new to this forum. I recently picked up a 98 xj for my girlfriend as a winter vehicle / rig. When I got it the radio was removed and all the wires were exposed. I purchased a cheap head unit to just throw in to pick up radio and whatever. I used a wiring diagram and matched the colors up. The radio turns on and appears to be working but no sound. I looked for an amp and found out that all the wires are taken out of it and taped up. The previous owner had an aftermarket amp and subs. Any ideas? I'm about to duct tape a boom box and call it quits.

1. Dump the nutz.
2. Run your own wiring to the speakers.

Looks like a wiring genius was in there... It's hacked. Just run your own wires like the other guys suggested.
