Sorry for the 3 year old thread necro, but i had to sign up to post on this thread.
I just typed in "1989 Comanche Pioneer" into google to find a picture to show a friend kinda what my MJ looked like and this thread was the 2nd response. Clicked on it, and see my MJ in the picture. Yep, that's my MJ now.
I ended up trading my 88 Grand Wagoneer and a couple hundred bucks for the MJ. It really is the nicest "original" MJ I've ever seen in Iowa. We are right in the salt belt so NOTHING lasts around here. What's crazy is the truck resided in Minnesota almost it's entire life, so I'm not sure how it lasted at all. It did end up having some small rust spots. The front right fender was bubbling out from the top of the fender flare, so I took that off and ground it down and coated it with some Corroseal. Haven't got it repainted yet. There's also some tiny bubbles down on the rear cab corner bottoms, but it's underneath the paint and hasn't gotten any worse in the 2.5 years I've had the truck. I've only driven it about 2200 miles since I got it, it basically sits in a storage garage. Kind of an impulse buy/trade, but I still love the thing.
Like someone else mentioned, to me, things of this age's value are really based on what you're willing to pay for it. The guy I bought it from was asking too much, but I think my trade ended up being pretty fair. It's probably worth more to me than most Jeep guys, but I bought it for the (very minor) "collector value", because I love Jeep and it's history.
Anyway, I was asking my friend what his opinion was on if I should sell it or not and thought it'd be fun to jump on and just let you guys know what happened with it. It's in my garage! Thinking about selling it if I can find someone that appreciates it for what it is (all original, pretty damn good condition, pretty low miles for the age, etc...). Because of my infatuation with all things Jeep, I'd hate to see such a nice truck get chopped up into an offroad rig or something. Hoping to buy a 1/2 ton truck for a daily driver since my LJ is mostly just a fun toy now, and the MJ seems to just sit around a lot.
BTW I also flipped the grill back the correct way after I got it

And $7000 for a near pristine MJ isn't too bad. I've seen several stock 01 XJ's with super low mileage at $13000 to $16000 asking prices. I really hope nobody actually pays that much for one. Lol
