Not sure on how to finish the chop at the end of the frame. Maybe a 1/4 plate from end to end or something.

I did basically the same thing. Capped it with a 2x4 .250" rear bumper. I think you need to tie both sides together however you end up doing it.

Since there's plenty of space on the rear. It could make for a good spot to mount a hidden rear winch but idk if I ll ever use it. Lol

Yours is a good idea. However I'm going to make a detachable rear bumper so maybe the 1/4 plate would have mounting points. Etc.

Plate doesn't offer much in the way of rigidity. I would use channel across the cut ends. Notch the frame for the channel to fit up tight (inside of 'C' facing forward). You can then through bolt the bumper to the channel.

I wasn't gonna mount the bumper on the across member. I was going to drill new holes along the frame and use same brackets in place. I would just add secondary mounting support along the cross member. However I think I could use the channel idea instead. Only if I can find one around here.

Know anyone with a brake? You could get some 1/8" sheet metal and make your own channel of appropriate size to match the height of the frame rails. I assume the frame rails are the same 16 gauge the XJ rails are, so 12 gauge (1/8") will be stronger than the frame rails.

WTF? You went to the bathroom I wrote that in? Hell of a coincidence.

Quick story. I work in the ship yard. Some of the graffiti in the bathrooms are interesting. There is plenty of it and a lot of the guys in the yards aren't too bright. Anyways, one time while working a long job on a carrier (they had bathroom trailers on the aircraft elevators) I wrote 'For a good time call Mike (and his number)'. It took a couple weeks, but he finally used that stall. He came out cussing me. He said that explained some of the calls he had been receiving.

So I went ahead with the chop. It came out nicely if I do say so myself

First I yanked the fuel tank out... I forgot that it was nearly full so I used the crane to pull it out.
I mean I can't have the sparks fly if it's still there.

I will decide on how it gonna be finished regarding the ends later as I go along with the bed build. One thing I'm considering is a hidden winch set up because it look like there's still gonna be some room available between the X.

I also finally cut some tubing and welded up the steering links

Now I gotta paint it and ream the pitman arm.


Also while looking at the sliders I can see there's gonna be some room just below the bed and above the sliders. I'm thinking maybe one side will have a storage box for tie downs, etc and put a 2 gallon air tank at the other side. The space is approximately 8"x9"x20"

I also found some TREs that I don't need anymore. It's UTK drag link end and offset tie rod. Anybody wanna buy them?
