need help and info on 4x4 swap

ok guys i need some help on deciding how I'm going to proceed with my swap. i have a 87 Jeep Comanche, I6 2wd 5spd stick. i also have a 96 jeep cherokee I6 4x4 Auto trans. I'm wanting to take these 2 and make my Comanche 4x4 with the auto trans, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. I'm doing this because my cherokee rusting out and has a salvage title and on its last leg, the comanche has perfect body and clean title

Option one: lots of work, i swap the whole engine transmission t case and ALL the electronics ( harnesses computers dash ect) out of my cherokee into the comanche. this is allot of work and I'm a lil uncomfortable doing that because ive never done it and fear that ill screw it up. the other reason I'm leaning away from this is there is sighs of rigging in the electrical of the charokee before i owned it and i don't want to put bad electrical in,

Option two: i take just the Auto trans and tcase and mate them to the engine in the comanche. if i do this i know i need a flex plate that matches my torque converter. But then i have to find some way to wire the auto trans up which i don't know how to do.

any tips info or right ups on wiring a auto trans into a Manuel comanche or cherokee?
all the help would be much appreciated!!

Find a 4X AX15 and keep your life simple.

Everything else will bolt over.

Use searchtempest.com

I found several with an average price of $800.....used to new for $1300.

Nothing you want to do is going to be cheap, regardless.

You'll end up buying new parts anyway, part that are worn, from engine and trans mounts to control arms to steering......etc......

People think that they can just throw parts around.......never works out that way.

Lift parts from the front will swap..........>NOT the rear.
Save the 8.25 from the XJ but you'll need to move the perches......new bolts and spring plates.....etc.....new springs........shocks.......drive shaft.......and so on......

Minimum $2K to swap.....guaranteed.

I found a solution RA Designs make a shifter that eliminates all the computers and makes it to where I dont have to tie in to my existing electronics only down side is its going to be manual shift which is what I would be with anyways

You'll also be controlling the torque converter with a separate switch. Trust me, unless it's just used offroad that shifter can be a pain in the ass to control. As Jeep Driver mentioned, go with a manual transmission. You can probably find someone willing to trade for your auto straight-up.

I've done it many times and it's not that hard but is time consuming. You have everything you need except for the rear driveshaft, it wont work. convert it to HO auto first then swap the lift and front axle over later, make it two smaller jobs. You can pull motor trans and transfer all together and set them that way too. The rear harness won't connect at the kick panel and you have to add a wire for the turn signals but easy to do. While you have the engine out swap the brakes too you have to swap the pedals anyway. get rid of that extra brake line to the rear while your at it...Nothings hard one inch at a time.
