help setting up push button start?
 

ok guys I'm going to switch/push button start on my 87 MJ and need a lil help ifiguring out what wires need to go where on my switches. my starter switch is gone and i want to use all the factory wires from the switch for my set up. i want to have 1 switch i can turn on for accessory power, one for ignition power, and a push button for the starter. ive seen a few diagrams ppl have made but not all of the colors match. also there's this momentary switch that was connected to another rod on the column that i need help identifying what that is.

first the black plug that was in the ignition switch
purple wire= acc?
black with white stripe= ground?
white with red stripe= ???
red wire= Battery constant?
orange wire= Fuel pump relay?

next the blue connector that was in the ignition switch
green wire=??
brown wire=??
yellow wire= starter?

then this switch, it was a rod operated momentary switch
2 lime green wires
2 white wires
one big brown with black stripe

I'm trying to set it up with 2 switches , one for accessory power, one for ignition power and a push button for the starter, but I'm open for recommended set ups :thumbsup:

There more than one wire that feed run and accessory circuits. Why not just install a factory ignition switch back on it. And switch on column is for high beams.

well it was pretty trashed when i got it and ive had to replace most electronics with aftermarket, so im wanting to kinda keep the theme of (race car status) parts ive been using, and i mighta kinda broke the ignition rod and really dont wana brake apart a column in the junk yard XD . and thanks!! ive been going through the FSM for hours trying to figure it out lol.

Its gonna take more than 1 switch for run and acc circuits. I would also suggest relays as to not melt switch.

Ok based from the function diagram you provided this is what I have so far. But based on the function diagram is orange the acc?? If so id move it to switch 2 for my acc circuit. Also for switch one which Is my instrument ECT circuit does it ground to the column through the original switch? And I shouldn't need relays if I'm using 20+A switches seeing how I'm using the rest of the factory circuit and its fuses/relay's?

It looks like you would need a switch for the start, horn, and accessory modes. The BRN wire in the schematic , if you ground this wire it would energize all three. And the horn would only work when depressing the button on the steering wheel and the new button that you just installed, all the while the engine would crank and the accessory mode activated and playing the radio if it was on. You are overlooking what the relay or ignition switch are doing, the ignition switch works as a multi functions switch. The BRW horn relay wire powers the start, the horn when the button is depressed, and the accessories, the ignition switch separates them. The trick is keeping the ignition switch. You can set it up so that you turn the key to the run position, then press the new button to start the vehicle. You need to get the starter switch linkage rod, then you can still wire a push button switch in using the wires at the starter solenoid.

Orange is run...Yellow is start and run.....Brown is accessory and start. 1 push button
5 switchs and relays so switch dont heat up.

I knew you would be like being in a space rocket with all the connections, or a extreme offroader.

Oh thanks for that information, to prevent heat buildup in the relays.

If your gonna do it do it right....

Keeps switch's from being main draw point. They only energize relays....
