Default Floor shifter boot

Just picked up a new to me comanche. 88, 4 cylinder 4 speed, 2 wheel drive. It's in really good shape body and driving wise, but the interior was trashed. Already ripped out the carpet and going to put a new one in. My shifter console was cracked, so I took that out and both boots are ripped so that's gonna need to be replaced. My question is since it's only 2 wheel drive I don't need that little console. Can I just use a floor shifter boot to clean it up a bit? Kinda like an old school floor shifter off a muscle car. I found a couple universal ones but wondering if anyone has done it before. Thanks!
