Not saying this is what happened to you, but I did the update yesterday and it took about 15-20 minutes - there are times where it looks like it's stuck, but patience is key to this. Even when one puts the thumb drive into the USB - it seems like nothing is happening but it is. Jeep should have a better feedback mechanism for consumers - I too thought nothing was happening, but knowing this stuff, I looked at the thumb drive LED - which was blinking thereby showing that it was being read by the system hence leave it alone! Hope you get this resolved....
Thank you for your input. Please know that "never stop the update" is advice that may be impossible to follow. In our case, we were in our garage for hours trying and retrying to get the software to upload. Finally, we had to stop the car and go to bed before it could be successfully loaded. Fortunately, after reading other posts and refusing to believe that my system as actually "frozen" and needed to be replaced as my service pro advised, we were finally able to upload the software by driving the car around until it finished loading. Not sure why driving the car made a difference rather than running the car in a parked position but it worked for us. However, it did not fix our "Vehicle Phone" not working issue and our GPS still goes haywire. Believe this is related to the fact that we are not getting a 3G sign next to the UConnect icon but instead have a circle with a bar through it. Very frustrating. . .

Not sure this will help, but I only had my 2014 KL Limited for 1 week! Had a drive from Chicago to Vegas and then to the Grand Canyon planned. GPS stops working on the day I was leaving for this trip. Everything else was fine. Had to get the entire radio unit replaced, but not until after my trip - talk about a joke. I used to work for NAVTEQ/HERE maps. So I used the HERE app for guidance and it worked great, but we pay $40K for these Jeeps and get all this grief - totally the only Jeep I'll ever purchase. My list of issues is a mile long. Lived at the dealer for the 3 year initial warranty. I continually tell people who ask, do not buy a Jeep and share my issues. Major one is the trans - another joke. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Good luck with the GPS unit. Prob need a new unit. Hope you have a warranty. The units are super expensive. Oh, I had to replace an HID headlight this week - dealer wanted $700 and another $300....did it myself for $150....even that is crazy. Go JEEP! lol.

Had my unit replaced because of gps issues and the frequent "phone needs service please contact dealer" error message. GPS is working great post replacement (knock on wood) and have not had any phone error messages since. Interesting part is the paperwork from the dealer that shows purchasing a new radio showed it only cost 500 dollars... if that's the case and you're not under warranty maybe you can get one yourself and save some money..... just my input

I tried calling a case manager hoping they would replace the unit for free since I only have about 20,000 miles on the car. The guy said that it is actually around 2500 dollars to replace the radio and that there is a software update coming at the end of August that might solve the issues. Still waiting for that software update. Has anyone else gotten the update? I can't afford to buy a new radio for 2500 dollars.

After reading your posts, the problem you describe is EXACTLY what my issue was. When I contacted UConnect customer service, the cs rep told that they had problems with update 17.43.01 causing the update to fail at unit 11 of 15. I made sure he understood that I had done nothing other than follow UConnect's installation instructions to the letter and many subsequent retries produced the same result and if the unit was trashed it wasn't because of anything l did or did not do.. He escalated the case up to case management and about 3 days later I was contacted by a Case Manager and was told that after review they'd decided to replace the unit free of charge. She made all the arrangements with the dealer and when my new unit came in, it was installed and l haven't had a problem since. My paperwork showed that the unit cost $1300.00. I think whoever told you it would be $2500 was giving you a bunch of s#*t. No way it should cost that much. Also, don't hold your breath on that software update....I was told in January that an update would be out in the next 2 weeks and it wasn't until March the update released and no one was notified that it was available. I finially got it in early June and that's when it trashed my system. I think you should get a bit more adamant with UConnect Customer Care, then maybe you'll get some results. Just my humble opinion.

Oh yeah, I'll not be updating my unit again, once bitten, twice shy.

Wow - thanks so much for sharing your experience with me. It gives me some hope that Jeep will own up and take responsibility for the unit. Recently my battery has died twice and there have been numerous error messages (after having a yearly check up last month with nothing flagged but the radio). Convinced that this is all due to the failed unit and software update. Am out of town now but will try to contact Jeep again next week. Your post is giving me some hope - thanks again!

Default Same Problem after updtae

I am haveing the same issue as many. 2016 Jeep Cherokee Update to 17/43/01 hangs at Unit 11 - Embeded air card. Sticks at 1%, Gives bolo software failure message.

I had the phone service message. I have tried update several times now! Tried removing usb trick. Still Stuck in loop. On the phone with Uconnect Support, but no help. They did assign me a case number, but beyond that were not very helpful. AT this point I would just like to get the radio and screen back.
I have been reading threads and It seems this is very common issue. Can anyone provide more help or tips?

This is exactly what happened to me last May. My update stopped at the exact same place as yours did. At first UConnect told me to take the Jeep to the dealer so they could diagnose the problem. The dealer told me that the entire radio was fried and quoted me a price of about $1500 to replace the unit. I called UConnect back and told them that the unit was dead and it due to NOTHING I had done as I had followed their installation directions to the letter. The rep told me that they were having problems with the update and would escallate my case up to a case manager and l would hearl something in a few days. About 3 days later l got a call from the case manager assigned to me and she told me that they would replace my unit at their cost. She took care of getting in touch with my local dealer and when the unit came in it was installed and works perfectly. I have learned my lesson about updating my UConnect unit...NOT UPDATING IT EVER AGAIN!!! As; l've said in a previous post....Once bitten, twice shy. I'd get in touch with UConnect again and insist they escallate you up to case management and see what they say. Couldn't hurt.

I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited and the GPS was off my location about 50 miles. I decided to try the software update and see if this would fix my problem. After installing the software on my 16 gig USB drive, I got to 67% and it failed Sierra Wireless update failed. I called UConnect customer care and they escalated my problem to a case worker that never once called me back. I called 5 days in a row and they keep telling men to go to the dealer. I tried a soft reset with the UConnect Person with no results. I am stuck in a loop and cannot use my radio as it wants me to try putting in the USB drive again. Can you give me any information who I can contact as it seems that I am not the only one having this problem and it should be covered by Jeep even though my car is just outside the warranty.

Default Uconnect Update Issue renders touchscreen useless

Newbie here so hopefully this gets a read. Have a 2015 Grand Cherokee and have had zero updates and zero issues. Then I get a message to schedule an update. Long story short.... I do the update and now the touchscreen does not work after 5 to 10 mins. Uconnect has "escalated " the issue but I have not heard anything back from them. So in the meantime I go to the dealership and their fix is to order a new unit! Well great it IS under warranty BUT I am on the hook for $100 bucks. This is crazy... I shouldn't have to pay squat for some update that I didn't ask for and that cannot be supported … the head service guy at Jeep said that their hands were tied because it all derives from Uconnect and they don't get the "fixes"...or any "patches".... Has anyone else had this issue? I am a bit frustrated..... I seldom go through the whole process of registering in a forum but this is how frustrated I am ……..I mean what if it was NOT under warranty ? Who is responsible ? Jeep or Uconnect? Are they one in the same? Something does NOT add up...….

DW, this is a 2014+ Cherokee KL forum, not Grand Cherokee. You may get more/better answers in the correct forum: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/

Default After Ucount upgrade reverse camera guidelines missing

Hi, I have 2015 Jeep Cherokee 3.2 V6 with a 8.4 Uconnect Radio. I had issues with the door where it kept saying my driver door is open so my auto stop start didn't want to initialize, so Jeep done a proxy alignment and system update, after the update 3 of my menu options under safety and driving assistance were missing which were the ParkView guidelines options, see Pic below, there are supposed to be 15 items of which there is only 12 now, when switching the vehicle to reverse now there are no guidelines and also no option on the radio to select the lines. How can I get my guidelines back? How is it possible that menu options go missing after an update? I have software version 14.29.9. Please help.
