Stock Cherokee on the beach??

Hi all. New member here. .Have had our Cherokee (2019) Limited for about 8 months....its the 2.0 Turbo version.

So far, great ride.

Wondering how many folks here with 2019 Cherokees have driven them on the beaches of the Outer Banks?

Contemplating a trip with ours. Its NOT a "Trailhawk" version. But it does have 4x4 and Sand mode.

I have driven the beaches of the northern OBX for decades -- but always with a larger 4wd truck etc that had decent ground clearance.

And the lack of ground clearance on this Cherokee makes me worry a bit.

Up north of Corolla you might be ok, the sand is usually more compact and easier to drive on. Down South around Oregon Inlet and Hatteras I would be more worried, the sand is softer and I have seen quite a few lower ground clearance vehicles bottomed out in the ruts.

I've heard that the standard Active Drive without the low range doesn't do well in the sand. Active Drive II (standard on Trailhawk but optional on others) has the low range, and does better in the sand. I can't confirm that for sure, but that's at least what I've heard.

Either active drive 1 or 2 will be fine in sand, just make sure you air down and know your ground clearance and where you can and can't go, you will do just fine
