ever opened a bag of wtf? looked inside and said... wtf?:thumbdown: kinda makes me wonder if my software was bad that caused my jeep to accelerate and brakes to fail or if it was a hacker practicing & probing.???? im not paranoid, just a realist.. and this is a real problem.. who knew? |

follow up
from my personal knowledge of devices that are computer based, lots of the technology today that once required a physical handshake (plug em together) in order for them to establish a relationship and communicate no longer need the physical connection.
lots of todays tech is wireless and bluetooth. which brings me to this, if all of the products are built on the same software then only 1 handshake would be required and the rest can be cloned in theory, and if a SN is the only thing that divides each individual vehicles call sign, thats too easy.. just troll on down the list until you get a bite.. im speaking in theory, based on what i just saw and what i know about comms related stuff.. the question is how much of the system can be compromised remotely?? seems the 2 guys that were hard wired controlled the parking assist via computer.. and if that can be done, so can a wireless operation, its the same computer operating it all not sure what kind of protection these things have as far as firewalls go. i always joked.. wait until some kid takes over cars with a smart phone... :happybday: |
That is indeed very interesting. It is not that hard to believe that someone could hack their way into your cars computer. If they can get your credit card information just by being in your vicinity, then this is a realistic possibility.

too much tech in the modern car! Leaves room for modifying but vulnerable to attacks. There's gotta be a wireless "hole".

Technically you still need physical access from the second video and I wouldn't say hackable in the modern demonized form. Maybe you could hack into the "onstar" and get free wifi. Just a thought I'm not saying do it and post a write up. I think I have just seen Gone in 60 seconds too many times and worry about people capturing my rf on my remote keyless.

so if you can gain access to that much via smartphone (handheld pc) then in theory alone you can do this from a laptop... see if you by chance did this wireless , and the vehicle has that parking assist.. you could cause that swerve and or accelerate it.. hopefully the binary nerds have something better to do, or use their skill to make money securing it. |

its all tied to the computer. in theory it can be done. lmao.. i can start it with a smart phone. lock n unlock the doors. find it if its lost.. have it shut down remotely. etc

High tech can be a good thing or a bad thing. I bet the chips released for the KL will do WAY MORE than they did for the XJ. |

BUT part of me says go buy a V8! so with that internal conflict going on.. i was thinking about a supercharger to slap on the engine.. set it and forget it.. why..:dunno::dunno::dunno: i just think it would be cool.. geeze imtired... and after reading what i wrote .. it looks like incoherent babble.. |
all this means that to steal one criminals just have to break a window plug into the car and drive off
