Default Automatic U-Connect Updates

So I was driving home yesterday and my U-Connect said updates were available. I started it, and the updates were finished by the time I got home.
The layout ( where the phone, climate, controls, apps, etc.) icons were, at the bottom of the screen, were rearranged, and it looks like more options on the phone screen. Can't remember exactly what the old phone page had, but it appears like an easier/nicer layout. As time goes on, I'll probably discover some more new/different stuff.
Only downside is, when it asked to do the upgrades, it didn't say what version it was going to install, but I could probably find a screen that would tell me what the current version running is.
I had an '08 Grand and I recall having to download the update from my computer to a flash drive, then put that into the unit to do updates.
Also on the way home I saw a new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and didn't see a rear tow hook. WTH ?

Nothing yet for my '14 Grand Cherokee WK2 with the 8.4N (RA4) radio... I'm going to have to put my VIN into U Connect's website and see what it says... I DID have the system freeze on me, parked the Jeep to go into Walmart, and came back out, and it was fine again, but maybe an update would also fix the sluggishness when you're switching a SiriusXM Satellite Radio station (it's fine on A/M and F/M (HD) Radio), the audio switches over normally, but the display takes a minute to switch over.

Of course, maybe you're paying for U Connect ACCESS... I'm only paying for SiriusXM Satellite Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link, NOT the U Connect ACCESS, so maybe it's apart of having that subscription. You CAN still insert a clean USB stick into the USB sync port in the center console to install any available updates manually, however.

Ya for those who have the OTA updates - do you have Uconnect access or not?

FYI for those who have the early (2013 and 2014) 8.4A and 8.4AN radios, the only current update available is for Siri EyesFree to make Siri work when you hold down the VR button on the steering wheel... at least for my 2014 WK2 GC that's all that's available right now... planning on doing the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay radio upgrade if available next year and uses the same wiring.

Default No UConnect service needed...

I don't have UConnect service and i received the update about a week ago. I believe the version is 07.11.17 or something like that.
The screen seems to be more vibrant and the back up camera crisper day or night no more glitches.
The menu has changed somewhat now you can add/remove relocate icons on the main bar .
No more 30 day waiting period for the memory stick to be read.
There seems to be less bass coming out of the sucky sub or maybe im just paranoid. Kid Rock "Cowboy" used to bottom out the sub and the speakers with the bass set only about half way ...not anymore!
I'm shure im forgetting something but just can't remember now.
Car is 15 TH with 8.4 AN.

Wow. It made the camera clearer? I felt my picture quality was a bit low relative to the times.

I just had mine download over the weekend, and am not happy: the Nav screen is no longer up top, but buried inside "Apps."

All my settings--radio stations, song favorites, saved addresses, phone numbers, everything--were blown away. VERY irritating as I have to redo these. It's like updating a software package at home only to discover it erased all your old, saved files. And no warning this would happen, either. Very poor rollout management.

I got my update a couple of months ago. The biggest thing I'm noticing is that the voice assist volume (the voice that says you're calling someone, etc...) is extremely low and I can't find the place to change that.

Default Still no update....2014 KL Limited

07.11.17 - Wonder if this update is not compatible with some 2014 KL's? Wouldn't surprise me. Inconsistency has been the hallmark of my KL.

Hi PaulHasher,

When the voice prompt is talking you can use your volume **** to turn the volume up, it should save the volume for the future as well. Please feel free to send us a PM if this doesn't help!

Little update: apparently FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has enabled OTA (Over-The-Air) updates via 3G on 3rd-Gen U Connect systems... a message will pop up on your U Connect display asking you to either "Update Now" or "Update Later". If you hit the option for "Update Later", it will bug you to do the update every time you start the vehicle. NOTE: This update is NOT available via your dealer OR via download onto a USB flash/thumb drive. You MUST wait for FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) to push the update out to your specific vehicle, as they roll it out in phases.

Once you hit "Update Now", here's what will happen:

* You MUST be stationary, and the ignition must be set to 'RUN' or 'ON'.
* You'll have to be in the vehicle for 15-20 minutes while the system goes through Stage 1 of the upgrade progress. DO NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE U CONNECT SCREEN TELLS YOU TO DO SO, OR THE UPDATE WILL HAVE TO RESTART FROM THE BEGINNING!!!
* After 15-20 minutes have passed, the U Connect screen will let you know that you may shut off and exit/lock your vehicle, but the screen will stay on while it goes through Stage 2 of the update progress.
* After 50-60 minutes, your U Connect system should have been updated. You'll receive a message on your U Connect screen that asks you if you want to see a list of newly-added features, or just to go and use the system. At this point, you might have to re-pair your phone and re-set the radio/phone presets and audio settings, as they may have reset to factory defaults during the update.

These are the features you'll get (sorry, no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on these "Older" systems):

* Siri Eyes-Free (if you didn't already have it installed from a previous update)
* Do Not Disturb Mode for Phone
* Improved System Performance
* "Drag-'n'-Drop" Menu Bar for 2014 and Prior Systems
* Improved UI (User Interface)
* Fixes Navigation and Freezing Issues

After this update, you'll no longer have to manually download (via a USB flash/thumb drive) or go to the dealer for the updates to be installed, they'll come right to your U Connect system via 3G, and you'll follow the same process described above each time to install further updates.

There's a few others, but this is what I know of.

My '14 WK2 Grand Cherokee with the RA4 (factory nav) hasn't yet received the update. Will keep everyone informed when it does.

94zj318's experience matches mine exactly.

Again, though, I want to warn you of the following:

1. Your preset radio stations are erased.
2. Your preset phone numbers are erased (from the menu, not your phone, of course!)
3. All your saved locations in the nav system are erased...including home.
4. Settings on your "Apps" will be removed.
5. My Navigation option totally disappeared from the main screen, and I had to reset it from "Apps."

Before doing the update, you might want to write down what you had.

I don't blame FCA for this--I'm sure the software was written by a third party--but there's no warning for this and you could, like I did, spend some significant time recreating and resetting everything the way you had it.

I don't understand why these have to be replaced, but that's how the programmers did it. Sort of like upgrading to a new word processor version, and finding out after the fact you can't open your old documents any longer.

Just be forewarned you'll have some work to do for very few new features.

Default iPhone issues with uConnect update

I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee and recently received the uconnect update. But I've noticed that when my iphone is connected to the system via usb there are some features that are not working. For example, I can no longer choose a song via the touchscreen. If I choose a song on the touchscreen the system does not respond. BUT when I look at my phone's screen it shows the song having been selected. But pushing play on the uconnect screen will not play it. I have to push play on my phone to get it going. It's that or I have to just choose music via my phone exvlusively. Also, while a song is playing I cannot slide the icon at the top to rewind or fast forward a track. Strangely enough I CAN still operate the rewind and fast forward while listening to podcasts. Anyone else out there notice any hiccups? Maybe I'm missing something?
