The KL Cherokee. Love it or Loathe it?

Last August i bought a 2017 Cherokee Limited with a 3.2 .Never owned a Jeep
before and have been pleased ever since. It has smooth ride, tight body and
good insulation. So far mileage has been great. At my age if it snows i stay home.
I have had all kinds of other vehicles but have enjoyed this the most. Gordon

About to take my third distance trip in my 2016 with my TW slung off the back. From here to Death Valley to Moab and back. Am again expecting nothing but a smooth comfortable ride.

I honestly think if the KL wasn't called the Cherokee there wouldn't be as much hate for it. That being said I don't hate it , out of all the compact or mid-sized crossovers this one is the best off the pavement by far. Sure the nine speed needs work but thankfully they've started making a six speed manual trans for the new Compass and the Renegade. The thing people forget is that the original Cherokee was a unibody unlike the Wrangler, etc. it challenged the Jeep expectation and gained a lot of love from loyal customers after awhile. I imagine the same could happen for the KL.

I totally agree having been Service Manager at a Jeep dealership from 1980 through 1992.

I agree with the above statement, if it wasn't called a Cherokee... then it could just be another odd looking SUV(?) in a likewise odd looking line of "Jeeps".
Just my opinion, I think it looks like a cross between a Siamese cat and a suppository.
It's a very capable(TH) ride, especially compared to other "suvs". But it's just not a Cherokee in my eyes. They look better now, but remember when the first gen of the new Charger came out? Yeah, it's RWD with a V8, but it's got four doors and Stratus tail lights. It's the name that caused so much flack.

The original Cherokee came out in 1974 and was built like an actual truck Predating the Wrangler brand by more than a decade

Back from my trip. As expected no trouble, all fun.
I just read a report on 13 cars to avoid from 2016. There were three different Jeep models in there. And, of course we all need to steer clear of Caddys, Acuras and Nissans too. Think I'll buy a mule. Can't go wrong there right?

When I was a young whipper snapper (1970's) I imagined all vehicles in the future would be very aerodynamic and streamlined. It seems most vehicles now days are getting more boxy and square all the time.
While with most things, I go 'Old School", I liked the looks of the KL when I first saw them, and like them even more now. I do wish they had done the back end of the vehicle different though. Darn near every JAP SUV I see looks just like a KL from the back.
And the headlight placement is kinds strange as well. But overall I love my Limited.

Not that worried. Has a 100k mile warranty on the power train.
Mostly just wondering about it.
Could be a case of just hearing squeaky wheels only and not all of the ones that are fine.

As a Jk owner and new owner of a Trailhawk I couldn't be more excited about it. I think it's almost more impressive what they can do because you wouldn't expect it to do half of what it's capable of! Can't wait to try this thing out!
