Default Intro & a couple of questions - Nav & extended warranty

Hello Folks! I've just gotten back to owning a Jeep after many years without a 4 wheel version <I have a Piper Cherokee but that's a whole different forum!> I decided some months ago I wasn't really happy with my present ride and after looking around for a bit I focused in on a new Cherokee. I've been active in the Corvette world for 20 years and realized I am ignorant of the resources in the Jeep world so set about searching for a forum where people are knowledgeable and this seems to fill the bill nicely.

First questions is about the "upgrade" to the vehicle to add the nav system. I'm told locally that it's a $599.00 + tax deal where somebody connects with the car's computer and pushes a button and there's the nav system (by Garmin?) all ready to go. It sounded, by the description to be a remote connection from "headquarters" <wherever that is> so I'm wondering if anybody had discovered a dealer that will do it for le$$ ?? I live in Northeast Florida and would travel a couple of hundred miles if there was any money to be saved. The second question has the same basis... on the Vettes there were many dealers that would sell the GMPP (General Motors Protection Plan) to folks at a very substantial discount. In Florida the law treats extended warranties as "insurance" and the Insurance Commission allows no discounting of insurance of any kind. Now, we all know who got that law passed, but it's still the law. Anyone have any suggestions? I thought the 5 year, 60,000 mile, $100 deductible was well past outrageous.

I'm glad I found y'all. I'm sure I'll have a bunch more questions during whatever the ownership period turns out to be.

Thanks!

As far as the MOPAR protection plan from Chrysler you can get the lifetime maximum care plan with $100 deductible for $2k if you shop around online from some different dealers. I bought mine via email from Clay at Zeller Motors. I would imagine that the less than lifetime plans would be less than that if you are not interested in lifetime plans. Not sure how the Florida law affects it though you'd probably have to ask the dealers that sell the plans.
