*help please* should I wait for 2019?

I'm in love with Jeep Cherokees! Especially the trailhawk -- I almost pulled the trigger on a lease a few days ago but now I'm wondering if I should wait for the 2019 - There's a good chance that I'll want to buy after the lease, so wouldn't the 2018 lose value sooner since it will be the "old model"? Thank you!

Ana, I don't think any of on this forum are experts on the new Cherokees. Completely different technology there. But in general, you always take a bath financially as soon as you drive it off the lot. So it is subjective on when you want to do it. The thing you need to ask yourself is if there is some improvement in 2019 that would be worth you waiting for

Most of us own older jeeps,And the few that own newer jeeps its hit and miss they either love it or hate it.And i hate to bash jeep but they have been on a lot of least reliable car list and car company list a few times. And the fiat 500 which shares a lot with some jeeps has been on that least reliable list a few times.I would drive everything else in the jeeps cherokee class and see if you still want the jeep.

Ana, I moved your thread to an area that should be more helpful.

Ana, I have done some reading on both models and I would say the 2019 is a better choice. It has more features and will surely have a higher resale value no matter how long you keep it. However, once the 2019 is on the market you could probably get a great deal on a 2018, but most likely only a purchase and not a lease (just guessing on that part).

The "new" 2019 Cherokee is virtually identical to the previous years save for the new front end design and new 2.0L Turbo 4 engine option. There are a few small interior changes as well. If you can wait a bit why not get the 2019 as they are just rolling into the dealerships now. At the same time there might be larger discounts on 2018's to move them out before the 2019's show up. Neither is a bad choice. As for vehicles losing prices quicker, well any vehicle does and why lease in the first place when you could just buy it in the beginning anyways?

If you plan on buying it, don't lease it. You'll pay more in the end.

I bought a new car. Once. Thankfully it was a Challenger and I got tons of discounts and when I got sick of it in 2 years I "only" lost $5k - which isn't a lot considering.

I wouldn't buy new again unless I knew I'd hang onto it until it died and then bring it back to life - which will be difficult with all the modern electronics. Am considering getting maybe a 2020 Wrangler but even if it isn't maintainable in 10+ years I know I can rip everything out and drop a carb 350 in it...

Oh and don't buy the new 2.0 for a little bit until they for sure sort everything out.
