Engine oil
I have a 2019 Cherokee Limited with the V-6 engine. I just cant get used to the 0-20 oil. I know I must use it till it is out of warranty. Has anyone used any thicker oil like 5-20 or 5-30? If so does it seem to be ok and get the same mileage? I am using Shell Gas Truck Rotella 5-30 in a 2004 GMC Envoy and it works great. Just wondering.

It took some getting used to for me as well doing the oil changes on newer cars, but the manufacturers know best. The correct oil with prevent cold start wear and maintain a healthy engine.

Second... only what's recommended for that year. newer vehicles have much different tolerances than say our old 4.0's do... If you try to use a thicker oil in that new of a vehicle, you are VERY likely to starve the valve train of oil because the thicker stuff won't flow through it like it needs to. (the viscosity) |
OK, i understand. It has Pennzoil 0-30 syn now. Probably use the same, or possibly M1 0-20.

So, the 2019 3.2 V6 requires 0-w30 or 0w20? I only ask because I have a 2014 3.2 v6 that uses 5w20, factory recommended in the manual. Just curious why they made the change.

Apparently, paying attention to details is not among the OP’s strong points.

I have not looked at the manual in awhile, but I think the 2.4 4cyl uses the 0 weight oil. Don't quote me on that.
If anything, this reminds all of us to read twice, verify, read it again. Then go get motor oil. |
I just got a 2020 Cherokee V6 and the manual for it says 5W20.
Just joined and was looking for information about doing my own oil changes and the warranty because the finance guy gave me a line about invalidating the warranty when I didn't buy the dealer oil change package. |
I learned one thing here on this site. If they say you have to use it they have to pay for it. I'm going to look at my manual again and see if it needs 5-20. I would feel a bit better them.

The finance guy was probably trying to sell you a package. If he actually said that, then he's in violation of the Magnuson -Moss act. They dealer can't require to use their services to maintain the warranty. They can however make it difficult as hell for anyone else to do the service. Just use the grade and spec of oil specified in the owners manual.

I just looked at my owners manual and it says 0-20, also on the fill cap. Guess that's what I'll have to use.
