2019 KL Transmission

I understand that 7-9 gears on my 2019 KL are overdrive gears, correct?
I have not seen my trans get to 9th gear. The highest that I have seen was 8th.
I can switch to manual shift and it will go into 9th with a big decrease in RPM's. But when I put back into AUTO it changes back to 8th, the RPM's rise of course.
This was while I was using cruse control on flat, straight roads.
If anyone is aware, when should it go into 9th?
The RMP's went from about 1500 to about 800 while I was shift it manually.

Any information would be helpful.
Thank you

I have read that 9th gear is only for 85 MPH+
So..... you are correct, Way overdrive!
I don't own a Cherokee yet, but I will likely purchase later this year. . I had some concerns about the 9 speed based on some older reviews. It seems that FCA has worked out the kinks on these,
My wife has a 2018 Pacifica with the 9 speed. It's essentially the same unit. No issues. Our experience with the Pacifica has alleviated most of my concerns. I have also done test drives in both the 3.2 V6, and the 2.0 Turbo 4 Cyl. Cherokees. It feels different than my 8 speed in the Genesis, but not in an objectionable way.

jsmit86,
Thank you for reply. I guess I need to get up over 85 to prove what you have heard is correct.

The difference between the 8th and 9th gear ratios is only about 20%, so you simply cannot see a large drop in rpm. When used in the Cherokee the 948TE transmission seldom shifts into 9th gear; there was a rumor circulated that there was no 9th gear. Others state that seeing 9th is akin to seeing a golden unicorn.....

In some areas, getting up over 85 MPH is also akin to seeing a golden unicorn!

I did it repeatedly a few weeks back, based on something I read here.

In all cases, I was at 75-80 MPH and on a descending length of road. Each time I switched from automatic to manual mode on the gear selector, it would be in 9th gear.

For some reason, it seems to like going lower in altitude. This is in line with what others here have seen.

2014 Trailhawk, 6 cyl., in my case.

Good post! I'd assume that Engine type, Active Drive I vs. II, and final drive ratio could also have a hand int the variances.

My KL TH top speed is 110 mph the computer won't let it go faster but I can feel it has the power to probably reach 120mph.

My KL limited, still stock, tops out at 19 with plenty of power left.
