2019 2.0T questions
I am considering purchasing a 2019 Cherokee Overland. I have a lease coming up in November on my 2015 Genesis AWD, so I will likely order sometime around Late August/Early September to make sure that the color and equipment will be available when I have to turn my lease in.
I test drove both the 2.0T, and the 3.2 V6. The 2.0T had superior responsiveness, so I may go in that direction. It's a new engine, so not much is known yet about durability, etc. I have a couple of questions for owners of 2.0T's. 1. Are there issues with oil consumption. 2. If you are running REG gas 87 octane, what is your observation. (I have confirmed that it is OK to use REG. Premium is recommended, but 87 octane is minimum required. Also, feel free to share any other observations on 2.0T vs. 3.2 V6 Thanks! |

jsmit86,
I have a 2019 KL with the 2.0 and at this time very happy with it. I have been get an average of 28-30.5 mpg driving mostly highway to work. I have about 2200 miles on it and I have been checking oil at each fill up and so far no change. I have been running 87 with no issues. Engine response is very good. Once/if fuel prices drop I plan on running at least 91. I did not drive any other KL's with the 3.6 since my goal was high mpg. Hope this is helpful. |

2.0 Recall.
As I was looking around yesterday I did see a recall for the 2.0 engine due to valve keepers and cam issues.
Recall was expected to go out July 18th from what I read. You may want to look it up. |
The recall is apparently for just 14 Cherokees. https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...problems.shtml The recent recall for the 2.4 engines was far more widespread (51,000 vehicles). . |
Thanks for clearing that up.
Of course I looked over that part once I saw 2.0, since I have a 2019 2.0 Shift work will get to ya. |

Any reports yet on how well the 2.0L Turbo does with towing, compared to the 3.2L V6?
I'm considering buying a Trailhawk model for both 4-wheeling fun and towing a trailer about 2,000 lbs. Debating on the Turbo or V6 motor with the Trailer Package... I know other models are "rated" at 2,000 lb. towing capacity, but it's not a good idea to be right at the limit with the payload. ;) |

How about any oil consumption? I'm still planning on ordering in about 4-6 weeks, so since this is a new engine I'm looking forward to as much feedback as possible on the 2.0T Thanks! |

Cherokee 2.0
jsmit,
Update on my 2.0 Took a trip to the east coast, live in Indiana, with a total of 3200 miles. I have checked the oil during and after the trip with no signs of usage. I changed the oil, oil filter and air filter before the trip knowing that I would pass the oil change interval why traveling. Gas mileage was great averaging 29.5 for the trip. Ran 87 the whole trip. Good luck on your purchase |

I haven’t had a 3.2 to compare against, but my 2.0 seems to get 1-2 mpg better in traffic with 91 vs 87. Runs fine on both, but is snappier on the 91. This may be due to the current high Arizona temperatures (105-110*F+) forcing more spark retarding with the lower octane. Nothing negative to say about the engine so far, I’m happy with the mpg, gobs of power off the line for a small SUV and unlike some, I like the growl under throttle. . |
As an update, I purchased a 2019 Cherokee Overland.
2.0T 4 Cyl. 4WD Tech Pkg. and Sunroof. Velvet Red with Black interior. So far so good! I've only had it 2 weeks. I've got a little over 400 miles on it. |
