‘17 Won’t start first try but starts on second try

Having an issue where after it sits for a while it won’t start on the first try. It will crank for about 5-7 seconds and stop. After putting the ignition into the off position and trying again it starts fine and will start again until it sits.

I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and what your findings were?

Thank you.

Generally this a symptom of a fuel line check valve leaking just slightly. Normally if it is functioning correctly the fuel pressure in the fuel rail will be maintained for very long periods of time. But if it leaks slightly, after a time enough fuel will leak back to the tank that the 2 second fuel pump operation on startup will not be sufficient to bring the system up to pressure high enough for the injectors to operate. A second 2 second fuel pump operation will do the trick. You can check this by putting a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail
