Thanks!

I thought I should pop in and thank you all for the info I've skimmed off this forum in the past couple weeks. It's really been a wear house of ideas.

I just bought a bright red 96 XJ that's pretty much "as issued". It's got the HO 4.0 and the five speed with 190k on the clock. It's in surprisingly good shape considering the milage and the fact that it spent 16 winters up here in New England. I'm only the second owner, it originally belonged to the retired chief of a local volunteer fire company who happened to use the same mechanic as I do.

I really don't see myself doing any sort of extreme off-roading with it. The worst it will see is the dirt roads to the fishing hole and the rifle range. I bought it as a tow vehicle for a boat project I've been working on.

The mods I'm most interested in (for now) would be performance and GVW capacity related.
I've added a V5 Reese receiver hitch from a Phase 2 Grand Cherokee, the Hopkins "Plug and Play" wiring harness adaptor (which is awesome) a new set of rear shocks and a 12ga. 20A lead to power a recharging system for the boat. The toughest job so far was pulling out a ton of ancillary wiring.
There was an alarm, satellite radio, CB with amp and some kind of a hands free mike set-up. There was a lot of stuff I couldn't identify positively, wires for a GPS(?), scanner, switches for a siren and god knows what all else. There was literally a bushel basket full of wires and co-ax and modules and brackets when I was done, and all of the leads were still live.

The future will include an alternator upgrade. It will need a muffler soon and I'll most likely go with a low restriction exhaust. I'm considering upgrades to the air intake system and injectors (if I get convinced they're worth the trouble and expense) I've also got to find a new rear bumper.

This is my full time driver and the second Jeep I've owned, I had an 89 2WD Pioneer some years back and I absolutely adored it.
That thing went to hell and back and never gave me a moments grief.

Thanks in advance for the welcomes.

Talk to you soon.
