Searching for a used XJ, any pointers?

Hello,

Never owned a Jeep of any kind before. I'm looking for a little off-road toy that is very capable but can still have some utility function when needed. Prefer 4x4 manual.

It seems as a used XJ would be a great fit. I'm currently looking at some used ones in my SoCal area but have no experience with these.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Things to look for? Common problem areas? Etc.

I've found a couple that are moderately modified to my liking with lower gears and lockers.

One thing I have noticed is that the asking prices (modified or not) are much more than KBB.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome the the CF neighbor. KBB is pretty useless, I entered the specs on mine and it put it in the $2k range when NADA put it closer to the $5k range. KBB doesnt take into account supply and demand. XJs are in shorter supply these days and demand is still high.

There are a lot of good YouTube videos on this same subject. Good luck.
