San Diego '88 Cherokee
Hey Cherokee Forum,
I'm new to you, but I've happily had my '88 Cherokee (straight 6 cylinder, 4x4, automatic, 4-door) since 2002. I say "happily", despite it nickel and diming me (and more) over those 5 years.
I'm definitely not mechanically savvy, and I've not had time/money to enjoy the off-roading potential of my Jeep, but I've definitely worked the hell out of it (San Diego to NYC, and back, loaded down each way; winter in Brooklyn; 2 summer trips to Reno, loaded down & towing trailer, etc.). So, it has been very useful to me.
One thing I'm definitely interested in knowing, since my Jeep has 215,000 miles, am I risking that soon their will be more and more serious/expensive work that needs to be done on it? If not, then I'll continue fixing things on it (i.e. power locks, cosmetic stuff, etc).
Furthermore, I wonder if there are aftermarket ways to modernize it a little bit. I think about the Honda Element's camping "snap-on" accessories. I think about all modern day cars little things, like cup-holders. I think about airbags. I think about how I've went through at least 4 coolant bottles cracking in 5 years & wonder if anyone has a solution. ETC. None of these are high priority for me, but if they exist, I'd like to know about 'em!
Looking forward to learning, improving and adding whatever little I know!
Ted
