Default Rear diff howl?

Hey guys. After spending countless hours here I have decided that the XJ is the one to buy and build for me. I have found a 95 sport with 240000 on it. The dealer said the rear diff howls and that is normal for this model. They are asking $2500 for it. Is this true about the rear diff? Is that too much to pay for such a model? Any help would be appreciated.

No, it's not normal for the rear to howl. $2,500 seems steep for that XJ regardless of the rear end. I'd look for a private party. You could probably find an XJ like that for between $1 and $1.5k.

I agree with the other guys. Sound like too much for that many miles + problems. Check craigslist.
Welcome and good luck!

That's what I thought. I figured it was overpriced and planned on offering $1000. I've also been looking at the Skyjacker 6' rock ready lift. Any bad things about that lift?

Just found out about Rusty's lift. Anything bad about them? A lot cheaper than Skyjacker...might go that direction.

that seems quite steep for that many miles. and no i dont think the rear diff is supposed to howl. whoever buys that is probly gonna have the thing blow up. look for one with an 8.25 though. i personally bought my XJ when i was 18 with 67k miles for $8k, down from like the 14 they were asking. i have heard better things about rusty's than pricejacker. RE makes a quality product though.

welcome from VA/WV

Took said xj for test ride yesterday. The rear only made an intermittent noise. It is also an 8.25. From what I have read that is an easier one to upgrade and is also stronger. Am I correct? I offered them 1k and they laughed and said they weren't going below 2k. I replied with 'guess it will sit there for another year.' Thanks for all the input.
