Hello everyone. I have always wanted to try my hand at offroading. I don't have a lot of experience ( except for what I have done in the military) I have always liked the XJ but what model and year would be the best to start off with? I have about 4K to find a truck with, in reading I think a 91-93 4.0 ho would be a good platform to start with. Am I on the right track, or is there another year I should look into?

Welcome to CF
91-93 are good. Heck I think they are all good except the pre 1987's
Just check it over real good and make sure you don't end up with a winter truck.
Some people use them for just that and get destroyed by winter salt.
Good luck!

Welcome from Wisconsin. My '91 Limited, Just hit 70,600 miles the other day. Not bad for a 20 yr. old car. Plan on keeping it for a long time.
