I live in So. Cal, am retired, like fast cars, prospecting for gold, astronomy and guns, My cars are a modified Mazda CX-7 turbo SUV and my toy.... a 96 turbocharged Mitsubishi Eclipse with lots of mods. Anyway why I'm here, I haven't been prospecting for gold since my wife passed away a few years ago. Sold my RV and 4x4 and haven't a way of getting back into the hills. Need a little advice on what Jeep to get. I want to be able to drive 400-500 miles (reasonable mileage would be nice) get back into the hills (using roads) be able to toss some prospecting equipment in back and on occasion sleep there too (if I'm finding lots of gold). I only need mild to moderate capability, maybe a little extra clearance, winch etc. want to get in and get back out as most of the time I will be alone. I've been told 1990's-2004 Cherokees might meet my needs.
