New to XJ
This is my 4th Jeep. I keep coming back to the brand.
So far, I've had a 2004 TJ Rubicon, a 2003 WJ Overland, 2011 JKU Sahara and now - a 2000 XJ Classic. Just picked it up a few weeks ago. Looking forward to fixing it up and customizing it somehow. Still searching for that right inspiration. Planning on using more for a daily driver than an off road beast...(don't hate me) I'm new to XJ and tinkering so I'm learning a LOT by watching videos and reading posts I find on here. Gained a lot of info from this forum so I thought I would sign up. I can tell someone already has done work on the jeep - I just don't know what all or the details. It has a lift, but I don't know what or how high It has bigger wheels - but I don't know how big. I /think/ they've swapped the tc (has command trac) and the seats have been swapped for leather seats from a limited? Right now - it's at the local garage to check it over - said there were quite a few things so we'll see what they say later Maybe I'll start a "build" thread - we'll see. Anyway - hi all - and we'll see where this ends up. |

Second go here and get the build sheet for your Jeep: https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing I want to say that a Classic could come with a Command Trac but not sure. Looking up your build sheet will confirm one way or the other. Same with the leather. Don't feel bad. I have spent the last 6 years sourcing factory options for my '00 XJ Sport that she did not come with. She is just a DD herself and all she will ever be while I own her. |
Build Sheet
I had previously run across that link and received my build sheet yesterday via email. I had no idea you could even do that kind of thing - very cool of Jeep. I'll copy it below
It does list Selec-Trac - and the cloth "agate" seats - but I'm still processing through the rest of it. Me thinks I was a little hasty in getting it - I've learned quite a bit more about the different styles / options / etc this last week. I had no idea there was even a Selec-Trac transfer case - (as my TJ had Command Trac) Thinking I'd rather have had the full-time 4wd - as I think it should help one off the line quicker - but maybe not. Seems there is more support / options for the 231 - and the mechanic says he prefers the simpler / less complex version that I have. I see it lists the California Emission package - I'll have to see how much of that is still in there - and if I can get rid of it. Supposedly, a previous owner has done some exhaust modifications to it - but it was the guy before the guy I got it from - and he didn't have a lot of details. It sounds pretty throaty - and the exhaust tip is straight out and a flattened oval shape. (so I'm hoping it's legit - and not just shot) I looked at the local CL ads and even salvage yard listings (copart) Went and looked at a couple - and picked this one because it had the least rust! (Michigan) Rocker panels still look fairly solid. SO I'm hoping the rest isn't too bad. I'll know more when I get the call back from the shop today - hopefully this morning time We'll see how bad or good of an investment I made. 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE CLASSIC 4X4 SPORT UTILITY 4-DR VIN: 1J4FF58S2 YL123184 *XJ Cloth Low-back Bucket Seats -AZ Agate AA5 Classic Value Group ADAP Light Group APAS Monotone Paint AWHP Power Equipment Group AWS Smoker's Group A20P 4.0L Engine(ERH)/4Sp Auto Trans(DGS BASS 124 Amp Alternator BCDS 500 Amp Maintenance Free Battery BGAS Power Front Disc/Rear Drum Brakes CACP Low Back Bucket Seats CBWS Highline Door Trim Panel CDBS Reclining Front Seats CFMS Rear Fold w/Removable Cushion Seat CGGS Traveling Inboard Seat Belt Buckle CGWS Next Generation Front Air Bags** CKAS Carpets - Floor and Cargo Area CKNS Cargo Compartment Carpet CKTS Cargo Tie Down Loops CKXS Plastic Liftgate Trim Panel CLES Front & Rear Floor Mats CSAS Spare Tire Cover CSRS Passenger Assist Handles CSSS Lift Gate Assist Handle CUFS Full Length Floor Console CUN Overhead Console CUXP Front & Rear Ash Trays DGB All 4-Speed Automatic Transmissions DGSS 4-Speed Automatic AW4 Transmission DHAP Lock-Up Torque Converter DHP Selec-Trac Full Time 4WD System DHSP Floor Mount Automatic Shift Lever DJKS Dana 30/181MM Front Axle DMDS 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio DRAS Corporate 8.25 Rear Axle EAAC All Engines ERH 4.0L I6 Power Tech Engine GAL Deep Tint Sunscreen Glass GBBS Tinted Windshield Glass GCBS Front Door Tinted Glass GEEP Deep Tint Sunscreen Liftgate Glass GFAS Rear Window Defroster GNAS Rear View Day/Night Mirror GNCP Sun Visors w/Illum Vanity Mirrors GTS Power Heated Mirrors, Fold-Away GVBC All Vehicles W/Power Mirrors GXMP Remote Keyless Entry HAAP Air Conditioning HGDS Deluxe Insulation Group JAYS DO NOT USE - See JP, KA classes JBFS Instrument Panel Black Bezel JCDS 100 MPH Primary Speedometer JHAS Var Intermittent Windshield Wipers JHBS Rear Window Wiper/Washer JJAP Cigar Lighter JJBS Dual Note Electric Horns JJJS 12V Auxiliary Power Outlet JPAP Power Windows JPBP Power Locks JPS Power 6-Way Driver Seat KFPS RADIANT SILVER MET. So as I suspected you have many options I thought you might.
It Being a Classic. To me low back buckets mean removable headrest ones. But I think the build sheet would indicate leather. They do come in a cloth version too. So that swap might have been done. Overhead, Icons, all the stuff I have already installed in my Jeep or am trying to source to do so. Mine is just an '00 Sport. More basic but with some stuff. |
yeah - those wheels are long gone
I haven't looked up what's on there now - but they require a wheel spacer Only thing I've done to it so far is the rear breaks. Lugs were on so tight I had to get a new break bar from cheap tool store. Then a few days later - driving on the highway with the family - long story shortened - after emergency exit - stopping at the gas station when my dad arrived with the jack - the back driver wheel spacer lugs had all come loose and there was nothing holding the rim on!! Fortunately - it did not come off while driving - and I was able to just put it back together - and torque the crap out of all the lugs after that. SO - already a fun time in the jeep. |
I didn't know what the Icon wheels looked like - so I did a search
and found an old thread on here - someone selling a 2000 classic that had a boat load of pictures and their build sheet so pretty much a twin to mine in most areas https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f70/20...ic-4x4-233436/ mostly minor differences - smoker's group, power seat, fog lamps, full size spare, etc. Different TC listed. does anyone know what this is? NBN Northeastern States Tracking And if there is a difference between NAEP and just NAE California Emissions? |

FWIW - picked up the jeep from the garage - and looked again at the transfer case shift level - and I totally have the Selec-Trac 231
I feel like such a noob. |
