Hello.... I bought a 1997 Cherokee 2WD. Overall, it looks pretty clean. It was repainted a few years back, the interior is clean and it had a new 4.0l l6 crate engine installed in June, 2012. I've found three rust-through holes in the underside of the body. As far as rust goes, I've seen a lot worse. This isn't too bad for a 17 year-old Ohio vehicle.
The odometer shows it has over 200,000 miles. I'm making a long list of items that need attention. This is my project vehicle. Over the next year I hope to turn this into a mostly stock, reliable, daily driver.
Now all I need is some money to fix this thing up - or maybe - I should get my head examined before I start throwing thousands of dollars into this vehicle. Oops... too late for that second option, I've already been to the muffler shop.
The first thing I did was replace the broken hood release cable. Good. We can now open and close the hood. Dropped it off at the muffler shop and drove away with a complete new exhaust. Good. It's now nice and quiet and I didn't even get my hands dirty.
Now it's time to tackle that rear end noise. I'm hoping that new drum brakes and a pair of new axle bearings cures my noise.
I've never owned a Jeep or Mopar product before, so I've been Googling a lot of questions about the Cherokee. Google led me here...
