New from NC

Good day to all!

I've been lurking around for months now and finally had the urge to post. I'm originally from MI, but have been in NC for almost 10 years now.

I've driven a few of my friends Jeeps in the past, but this is the first I've owned all to myself. I picked it up last fall and have been loving it since!

Thanks! Not "planning" one, but have it in the back of my mind once the Peugot goes out. I'd probably swap out the 3.07 axles out before I go for the transmission. We'll see how she goes.

Would be nice to have an ax15 freshly rebuilt sitting on the shelf in the garage ready. Lol

I would do a cheap junkyard 3.55 axle swap if ur just running 31-33 tires. Or even if u get lucky u could find a set of 4.10 axles

I've been thinking of running 31s in the near future and long term perhaps 33s, but I don't want to go any larger than that. So I think 3.55s should be easy enough to come by from an automatic donor.

Defintely.

Welcome to the forum, your description says your sporting a D44 outback? Didn't know they came in 3.07 gears, LSD is nice did you get that installed?

AFAIK it is all stock. The 4.0 with manual transmission came with 3.07 and the 4.0 with auto was 3.55. It's on wiki, it has to be true! ;)

As a caveat to the LSD statement, I've had it for less than a year, who knows what the POs did with it, but I'm pretty sure it came stock.

Pretty sure it didn't matter whether it's a manual or an automatic, as long as it came with towing package from the factory, it ll have a Dana 44

Yessir, I was just making the connection between the transmission used and the gear ratio, regardless of the axle used.

Nice find!, I've just never seen one 3.07s
All the ones I've seen have had the auto 3.54 gears

Thanks!

I see some benefit to the 3.07s when doing 75 on the highway -- about 2k rpm. Last tank I ran was 19.3 mpg, but I'm expecting it to go down if I move up to 3.55. Maybe 31s will offset that though.

What I don't like is climbing a decent grade at low speeds (under 10mph) and not having much power. The only thing that makes it okay is feathering the clutch, otherwise I'll have to drop into 4 low. Most of the way up the backside of Daniel I just ran it in 4 low and shifted to second if I needed to keep speed with my buddy that lead.

Once I go full hooah with this thing I may go for a T18 with low 1st, but that's a ways off.

Don't know if they could fit a t18 behind a 4.0 lol but that would sound interesting.

U could look into a teraflex 2-LO kit for the transfer case. U basically can drive in LO while still in 2WD

XJwonders Jul 7, 2014 08:32 PM

Unless u are planning to do the GM v8 swap?
