So, I've always owned SUV's throughout my life. I bought a 1996 Cherokee Sport 2wd, 4 door. Wow! I finally get it. I cannot believe my life has made it this far without the intervention of supreme on-road/off-road domination. I have big plans (as does everyone with a jeep) including fixing some front end damage, finding the mysterious oil leak, fixing the AC, and 3" lift. I'm sure I'll be picking the brains of the pros for all of the help I can get.

I'm Louisville local and would be happy to find some other local owners that could help point me in the right direction for some of my plans. Glad to be on here and glad to own a ****ing Jeep!

Welcome I am about 40 min south of you.

Why did you choose 2wd if you want to go offroad? Doesn't make much since to me. If you need any help with the lift let me know I have a garage and lots of tools.

I chose 2WD because I'm not going to be climbing any rocks in my Jeep, I do that all on my own. I have found that a 2WD vehicle is a formidable opponet in the outdoors world as long as you practice situational awareness. Besides, with 4WD, there's a whole lot more things that can go wrong. .......Good to know about the oil filter housing leak. Maybe that's where my oil leak is coming from?

That is a load of BS. "I practice situational awareness"

In Kentucky if you go anywhere offroad it is a good idea to have 4WD. No matter how much you practice "situational awareness" mother-nature happens.

The problem with your statement is with 2wd offroad there is actually a lot more that can go wrong.

Well perhaps I'm Just better at avoiding the obstacles that entrap otherwise unsuspecting drivers. BS you say? Sounds like someone's been in over there head a few times. Can honestly say it's never happened to me. You gotta be prepared and always have a method of egress from every situation. The truth of the matter is, is that 4WD in untrained hands can render a false sense of security. I have been trekking the woods, hills, mud, rocks, and roads of Kentucky for some time now. As a liscened outdoor guide, teaching climbing, rappelling, and rope rescue I can assure you my vehicles have found themselves in some less-than-desireable road conditions (or lack there of). And my 2WD has performed flawlessly

Plus, I know that if I had 4WD, I'd probably get myself into some fun, yet sticky predicaments.

Yeah I doubt that. Been with the 4WD for awhile now. From the Bronco II in my teens. To Army Humvees while serving. To XJ's when out. Did get stuck once due to being high center on a log. Never over my head though.

Just would not trust a 2wd in the sticks. But then again I am sure there are places I go that you would not so.... Oh well. I just wouldn't waste my time lifting a 2wd vehicle but to each there own.

hi from frankfort so I'm only like 30 mins away from you, and as far as giving you crap about having a 2wd I say go for it my vacum lines weren't hooked up when i first bought my jeep and i went through places that i saw a lifted 4x4 wrangler struggle with. If you know what your doing i say have fun its still a cherokee so that makes you alright in my book.
