Default New to Jeeps from NY.

On Saturday, 23 Jan, I purchased a 2001 XJ with known 0331 cracked head, and I practically stole it for the few dollars I paid for it. Otherwise the XJ is in very good condition, under 100k miles, no salt rot. I'll be bringing the rig to the shop I work at and will get pics at that time.
.
I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee that has been in a collision, and has a great running 4.0L and black leather seats, heated fronts. I'll swap engine from the GC into the XJ in a couple weeks. Once that's done I'll be parting out or selling whole the GC in hopes of recovering some funds.
.
Future plans include mild lift, 2-3.5", little bigger tires, rails, winch mount and some good off-road lighting LED bar and spots.
.
I've scrolled around a bit on this forum, which has proven itself very useful knowledge wise. More research for me on rules etc., and hope a fellow member will be looking for a great GC minus engine and seats for their parts for cheap.
.
I'm retired Army, mechanic, and general sarcastic but respectful clown that enjoys a great time, looking forward to getting my new to me XJ out and some wheeling.
Thanks for the welcome,
Charlie

My $150 new to me 2001 XJ Sport....comes with cracked cylinder head. Driveway is tight so pic angles are not optimal, my apologies.

Yes the PO liked his stickers & Pulp Fiction, no, they are not covering up rust.

Hmmm...her butt looks a bit boring, going to have make my own bumpers.

welcome to the forum! we got a lot of fellow members here who have put on lift on their Jeep. you may ask for some tips or read on existing thread about it.

maybe you can also help put some people here in the forum about their Jeep problems since you've mention you're a mechanic. we 're all glad to have you on board, Charlie. Have a great day.

Can you elaborate? I know there are sensor differences, but is the block mounts or bellhousing mounts different or what? I figured 4.0L Jeep is same, minus some internals maybe...kind of like SBC some are EGR or sand EGR, small chamber, 2bolt main vs 4 bolt, but one of that translates to unable to swap. Thank you.

WJ and 2000+ TJ blocks underwent clean block redesign. Mounting bosses and holes may not have been drilled/tapped or doesn't exist at all.

It ll be a bear to fabricate new mounts when there's cheaper XJ engines out there

If your bottom end on the XJ engine is still good, u can pull the head off the WJ and use it on the XJ.

Well that's not coolbeans at all....I had a steal of a deal on a complete WJ, all I wanted was cylinder head at first, then it became why not swap engine into the XJ and take the leather seats.

So, I assume the cylinder head from the WJ, "TUPY" verified by looking thru oil fill spout, will indeed fit no other modification? If so, back to cylinder head and leather seats.

Thanks for confirming mounting relocations, makes sense seeing it's using a MB transmission.

Yes I personally slapped a tupy head on my 01 motor a couple years ago. It's literally exact same head except it got more reinforcements
